It can be cut into cubes, oureed, thick slices (rings), thin slices (like ham), split in half, stuffed like a bell pepper, etc.

How to Cook Any Type of Winter Squash from pumpkin and butternut to kabocha, delicata, and acorn ~ and don't forget to roast the seeds!

On Friday and Saturday, the NRV Glean Team held it's 15th potato drop (where we donate an entire truckload of 42,000 lbs of potatoes from Maine). 32 food providers from VA and WV arrived at the Christmas Store to pick up potatoes prepared by 66 volunteers from all over the community. Our next drop will be on Feb. 17th, 2024.

The next Glean Team potato drop (our 15th) will be on Nov. 10-11 at the Montgomery County Christmas Store in Christiansburg, VA. We donate 42,000 lobs of Maine potatoes to food banks all across the region centered in the New River Valley. If you would like to help out at this community event, please sign up at

The potatoes will arrive by semi- in pallets of 50-lb bags. We will open 50-lb paper bags of potatoes and rebag them into 5- and 10-lb amounts. We may be outdoors so dress for the weather! The 13th Glean Team, potato drop was held Dec. 2-3rd at the AGAPE Center in Christiansburg. 31 food providers received 42,000 lbs of free potatoes shipped in from Maine by the Soc. St. Andrew https://endhunger.org/virginia/. The food providers hailed from as far away as Summersville, WV to Marion and Moneta, VA. The next potato drop will be Feb. 17-18th at the Montgomery Co. This fall we have harvested and gleaned about 8,000 lbs of winter squash and some pie pumpkins for donations to food providers. They will provide good food for many months to come. Thanks to everyone who donated time and effort, including Service Without Borders and the Rotary Club (and Auxillary) of Blacksburg. Special thanks to Windy Hills Farm owner Darin Greear for donating several thousand pounds.

Next year we are looking for a new place to grow these beauties.
