We’re wrapping up Poultry Month by celebrating Robert, a ’er with Fauquier County 4-H whose flock is helping feed families in his community! 🐔💚

Through the Fauquier County 4-H Poultry Service-Learning Project, 10-year-old Robert cares for his chickens, collects and packages their eggs, and donates them to the Fauquier Food Bank. Since joining the program in 2022, he has donated an incredible 9,252 eggs, including 2,178 this year alone! 🥚🍀

Through this incredible project, Robert has learned about poultry nutrition, predator management, and the day-to-day responsibilities that come with caring for backyard chickens.

Since 2020, 80 youth have gotten by participating in the Poultry Service-Learning Project, donating more than 5,500 dozen eggs to local food assistance organizations while building skills in agriculture, leadership, and service.

Congratulations to Thomas, Jonas, and Josiah, along with coaches John Michael and Jill, from Orange County 4-H (VA) on winning the 2026 National Youth Cattle Working Championship! 🏆

The National Youth Cattle Working Contest challenges young people to put their cattle handling skills, teamwork, and industry knowledge into action through real-world scenarios. Competitors advance through regional and state contests, with top teams earning the opportunity to represent their state on the national stage.

The competition emphasizes safe, efficient, and humane livestock handling while helping youth build the skills, confidence, and experience to become future leaders in the beef industry.

Congratulations to the entire team on all the hard work, practice, and dedication that went into this achievement. You’ve made proud! 💚🍀

Hundreds of young equestrians from across the Commonwealth gathered at the Virginia Horse Center in Lexington for the 2026 Virginia 4-H Horse Program State Championship Horse & Pony Show! 🐴🍀

From the show ring to contests that put their equine knowledge to the test, ’ers spent four days demonstrating their skills, sportsmanship and dedication to all things horse.

Congratulations to all of this year’s participants, and a huge thank you to the families, volunteers and supporters who make this event possible each year!

Your 4-H experience can take you all kinds of places. From solving a problem or leading a project to helping your community or discovering something you really care about, however you’ve put what you’ve learned into action, we want to hear your story!

Applications for the 2027 Virginia 4-H Youth in Action Awards close Sunday, Sept. 20 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Honorees in Agriculture, Civic Engagement, Healthy Living, and STEM will have the opportunity to represent Virginia 4-H as ambassadors and share how young people are making a difference across the Commonwealth. 🍀

Whether it's using what you’ve learned to solve a problem, serving your community, teaching others, or becoming an advocate, the Youth in Action Awards celebrate young people doing exactly that in Agriculture, Civic Engagement, Healthy Living, and STEM.

We want to hear your story: what matters to you, what you’ve done, what you’ve learned, and how you’re making a difference. 🍀

Applications for the 2027 Youth in Action Awards are open through Sept. 20. Applicants will submit an online application along with a video, photos, and a letter of reference from their Extension Agent or the VCE employee leading 4-H programming in their county or city.
