Pi Lambda Phi at Virginia Tech

Pi Lambda Phi at Virginia Tech The official Pi Lambda Phi - VA Omicron Zeta Chapter at Virginia Tech page. This is how Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity was established.

National History

Our Founding Fathers sought to create a college fraternity on lines broader and more liberal than those employed at the time. It was their purpose to establish a fraternity in which all men were Brothers, no matter what their religion; a fraternity in which ability, open-mindedness, farsightedness, and a progressive, forward-looking attitude would be recognized as the basic attri

butes.

In 1895 at Yale University, a group of men were denied the right of admission into college fraternities because of their religious and racial backgrounds. The leaders of this group were three gentlemen, Frederick Manfred Werner, Louis Samter Levy, and Henry Mark Fisher - our Founding Fathers. Werner, Levy, and Fisher had a vision of a fraternity where neither sect nor creed shall ever act as a bar to admission for any man. In the preamble of the Founders' Bulletin, dated March 1895, it states: "We students at American colleges appreciating the need of a fraternity which shall eliminate all sectarianism do hereby associate ourselves in this Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity." Local History

In 1982, Glenn Moser and Lance Altizer transferred to Virginia Tech as already initiated brothers of Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity. Dr. Joseph Pitt, the Head of the Philosophy Department at Virginia Tech, found out that Pi Lambda Phi was trying to colonize at the campus. Joe, a Pilam alumnus from William and Mary, helped in the process of getting the chapter recognized and became VA OZ's faculty advisor.

The chapter became recognized on campus as a Chapter of a major National Fraternity and received its charter from Pi Lambda Phi's Headquarters on May 26, 1984. The founding fathers of the VA OZ Chapter at Virginia Tech are Lance Altizer, Mike Blow, Chris Miller, Glenn Moser, and Fred Villegas.

We at Pi Lambda Phi have signed up for Walk MS--an event that brings together a community of passionate people to connect and raise funds to change the world for everyone affected by multiple sclerosis.

MS is an unpredictable and often disabling disease. While we've come a long way in understanding and treating MS, there's still so much more to do. That's why I'm participating and raising funds, and I hope I can count on you to help fuel progress. The money you donate will drive groundbreaking research and services to ensure people affected by MS have the resources they need to live their best lives.

In result of the COVID-19 pandemic we are unable to host our annual MS Fest philanthropy events. In place of this we are asking for your help to spread awareness about MS. If you would like to join our organizations team or donate please click the link below! Thank you and stay safe!

Ready to join us in ending MS forever?

Walk MS connects people living with MS and those who care about them.

The Virginia Omicron Zeta Chapter of Pi Lambda Phi is proud to continue our support for the national Multiple Sclerosis Society and MS research. The brothers of this chapter choose to support raising awareness for MS as some of our closest friends, fellow Hokies, and Steve Homesy, a former President of Pi Lambda Phi at Virginia Tech, have struggled or still struggle with this disease. Please join us as we support those who struggle with MS. Come out to our Pilam JaMS events from April 10th-12th, and be sure to join us in the Walk MS Event in Roanoke on April 13th!

Brothers, friends, and family of Pi Lambda Phi.

Earlier this week, an alum Drew Haynes (Beta Mu) was awakened by a neighbor in his hometown of Milwaukee, WI and only had minutes to escape a rapidly spreading fire without the ability to salvage any of his possessions, which are now completely destroyed. Unfortunately, Drew did not have any renter's insurance and needs our immediate help.

Alumni Lance Altizer, Cole Michaelides, Nick Nutwell, and Zach Bokulic have launched an emergency fundraising campaign for Drew Haynes. The Virginia Omicron chapter of Pi Lambda Phi is calling on all Pilam members, friends, and family to help contribute anything you can to assist Drew with a serious recovery process after losing his home. All proceeds of this GoFundMe will go straight to Drew.

Please contact Zach Bokulic 703-217-5038 if you have any questions or concerns.
