Because one trip in the rain is definitely not enough, we also went to Troutoree (a camporee with trout fishing) at the beautiful Camp Powhatan on the Blue Ridge Scout Reservation. The fun included tiny fish, big fish, patrol cooking, tent waterproofing, many prizes, great friends, and so much rain. Thanks to the troop leaders, event organizers (some of whom are also troop leaders), and the event volunteers who made it happen.

One of two trips this weekend was a soggy and delightful 15-mile backpacking trip in Grayson Highlands State Park and Mount Rogers National Recreation Area. The rain did not dampen our spirits at all.

Scouts over 13 from all over the council gathered for the High Adventure Campout to take advantage of offerings at Camp Ottari, including black powder, axe throwing, blacksmithing, and the zip line. I even heard that one of our scoutmasters went down the zip line. Perfect weather and a full moon just added to the magic. Many thanks to the organizers!

Scouting is back in full swing. Our first trip of the year took us to Deer Island on Philpott Dam. We hiked, paddled, swam, and held the world famous Troop 158 campfire program. We learned to carefully pick our campsite (rocks and hills aplenty), how to steer a canoe, and to always remember the cheese for our meals.

Troop 158 went to Philmont too!

In addition to going to summer camp, staffing summer camp, attending and staffing National Youth Leadership Training, staffing Cub Scout camp, and finishing some Eagle projects, Troop 158 took a contingent to Philmont this summer.
