Virginia Tech’s Women’s Club’s (VTWC) purpose is to expand the intellectual and social horizons of its membership, provide scholarships to women at Virginia Tech, and promote the interests of the University. Members share educational, social, and service-related activities with the motto, “Enriching Lives Together”. Contributing to campus life and our community through service is an integral part of the vision of VTWC.
The Club was organized in 1965 when a small group of women recognized the need for an organization that would bring together faculty women and wives of staff members both active and retired. The purpose of the group initially was strictly social—an effort to help the women become better acquainted and promote fellowship. Over time, the club has experienced change. Beginning in 1973, the members joined together to raise money for scholarships by selling cookbooks. In 2017 to reflect the inclusivity of the group, they adopted their current name VTWC communicating that all women from the greater New River Valley are welcome to join with the common purpose, not only those affiliated with Virginia Tech faculty. And in 2018 they expanded their commitment to Service which focuses on food insecurity, childcare, and outreach.
In addition, VTWC sponsors club events featuring speakers from the community, an active Travel and Tours group, and 20 special interest groups for our members ranging from Hiking to Bridge! VTWC hosts monthly “Friday Forums” that are free and open to the public featuring a broad array of lectures on topical issues. These Friday Forums help connect the VTWC with the NRV community in a fun and informative manner. We invite all women who support our mission to join us.
