VTIPG builds relationships between university and community linking academic research and outreach

In recent weeks, Cecily Rodriguez, Associate Director for Research and Organizational Innovation and facilitator of a number of trainings here at IPG-Richmond, traveled to and throughout the interior of Guatemala as a part of a cross-institution collaboration between Virginia Tech Institute for Policy and Governance, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and Universidad del Valle de Guatemala.

While there, the group met with a group of traditional healers and midwives, leadership at public hospitals in Guatemala and Esquintla, met a group of physical education teaching students at the Universidad del Valle - Altiplano (The Mayan highlands), and did interviews with a class entitled Social and Emotional Health for Life & Leadership.

We're thrilled to see regional and international collaborations between and the impacts they make in the communities they serve both here and abroad.

We publish our July 2026 Quarterly Newsletter on a very special day: July 1 marks the 20th anniversary of IPG! Our newsletter features a brief commentary on this day by IPG Director Dr. Max Stephenson Jr. We will commemorate this significant milestone more fully in September. Today, we acknowledge the special character of this achievement and thank all of our faculty, staff, students, affiliated researchers, community partners, university partners, and alumni for your roles in ensuring that we not only attained this milestone but did so with excellence. We have weathered much across these decades but none of it would have been possible without your thorough professionalism and dedication. Happy 20th Anniversary to IPG and many more!

IPG is pleased to welcome McCollum to our team! She will serve as our Outreach and Engagement Manager, based in Richmond. Arielle's responsibilities include program planning, event management, recruitment and participant support, and data management. We are delighted to have her join us.
