Blacksburg Young Professionals Uniting Young Professionals socially and professionally in the Blacksburg, VA region. The YP scene in this area is unique. Stay in the know!

Young Professionals (YPs) are typically anyone in their 20’s and 30’s working, living and playing in Blacksburg. Maybe you're a recent college grad starting your career at one of our up-and-coming technology companies and are adjusting to the non-student life. Maybe you've been here a while and are looking to connect with other young families and advance your career. Whatever your situation, we strive to create a unified community of young professionals and become an advocate of this area's future leaders. We round out the YP experience by focusing on the Social, Professional, and Economic Impact of ensuring that YPs have the tools to make and enjoy Blacksburg being their home. Sign up for our mailing list to receive YP-related events and resources. Join the Blacksburg Young Professionals for a spooktacular Halloween Mixer on Wednesday, October 28th. Hosted by the Blacksburg Museum & Cultural Foundation, come out and network with other young professionals and see the museum's featured Halloween-themed exhibit—The Art of Goodbye and shop museum merch at Vaugh & Black Co.

The Art of Goodbye explores the ways in which mourning and death rituals have evolved through the Colonial, Victorian, and Modern eras. We will be exhibiting a range of artifacts, from local gravestone rubbings, hair jewelry, and mourning attire to items from the McCoy Funeral Home private collection. The BRMC will sponsor the first 6 people who sign up to attend the Haunted History tour! Click the link in our bio to sign up today!

At 7:30 pm there will be a Haunted History Tour through Downtown Blacksburg, and the first six (6) people to sign up will have their tour fee covered. For all others, the price of the Haunted History Tour is $25. On this 60–90-minute tour, renowned ghost tour guide T.J. Prosalenti will take you to five locations – The Thomas-Conner House, Blacksburg Elementary (1934-1964), The Lyric Theatre, Stroubles Creek near the 5 Chimneys House, and the Alexander Black House. The stories at each stop will range from 5-10 minutes in length.

Surely y'all didn't think that was all we had for October. We have another exciting mixer planned at the Alexander Black House on Wednesday, October 28th from 5:30-7:30... and yes it is Halloween themed. Afterwards, a few of us will attend that night's Haunted History Tour.

Reminder that our Monthly Mixer to kick off a jam packed weekend is today! In collaboration with First & Main, we will be at McClains at First & Main to celebrate their Second Annual Rocktober fest this weekend!

We want to give a big shout out to our sponsor First and Main for their generosity and want to encourage anyone in town to check out Rocktoberfest. It is a free community festival celebrating the very character of our beloved town.

We are also still accepting donations for Career Outfitters. If you have any old dress shirts, pants, polos, or dresses, we will happily collect them!

Don't be sad that this weekend has ended, because we have an even better weekend ahead of us!

We have our October Thursday, October 1, from 5:30-7:30. We will be at McClains at First & Main. This is in collaboration with our friends at First and Main to promote the second annual Rocktober Fest on Saturday, October 3! ! It's a free community festival to with live music, local shopping, and fall family fun!

I hope you didn't forget about our upcoming Pulaski Young Professionals X BYP mixer this week! We will be at Great Wilderness Brewing Company on Thursday, September 3rd from 5:30-7:30. Thank you again to Carter Bank for sponsoring this fabulous collaboration.

We will also be collecting Professional Attire for Career Outfitters.

Do you have professional clothing, shoes, or accessories that no longer meet your needs? If so, Career Outfitters needs you!

Career Outfitters is a professional development program that provides Virginia Tech students access to free, donated, professional attire and accessories. They provide students with access to shop these items for free to keep. As students prepare to attend upcoming career fairs, networking events, interviews, and other professional events, it is challenging to maintain a fully stocked size range.

They accept donations of new or gently used, clean professional attire and accessories that are appropriate for business professional or business casual dress codes. These items include matching suit sets, suit jackets, blazers, business vests, dress pants, business skirts, business dresses, long-sleeve button down shirts, blouses, and accessories such as dress shoes, belts, ties, briefcases, purses, and bags that are appropriate for professional occasions. All clothing sizes will be accepted.

If you are unable to come to the mixer but have some clothes to donate, they will accept in person donations Monday – Friday between the hours of 8:00 – 5:00 at the Smith Career Center located on campus at 870 Washington St. SW Blacksburg, VA 24061.
