VTLUUG is hosting Facebook's Production Engineering Tech Talk this Tuesday at 6:30pm in Randolph 129.

The talk will cover the topic of managing services at scale with an emphasis on Facebook’s Automated Remediation or “FBAR,” one of the leading event driven automation and automated remediation solutions.

Production Engineering is most relevant to the LUUG since it is a hybrid between a systems and a software engineer with focus on infrastructure.

There will be (very good) food served and after the talk we will have some time for Q&A and mingling.

We will be having a workshop on Ruby run by Lukas Lozovski from Riff Digital. This will take place in McBryde 328 on Tuesday September 15th at 6:30 PM. The workshop will cover the basics of Ruby: installing Ruby, (though we can't help with Windows!) and dependency management. The workshop will involve the creation of a few data structures in Ruby with unit tests. The workshop will conclude with some advanced Ruby features like Mixins, metaprogramming, and lambdas/inter process communication.

There will be a part 2 (and potentially part 3) involving API development in Ruby.
