We are thrilled to announce the ABWA Chapter Member of the Year and Community Woman of the Year Award winners! Each year, our network emphasizes the outstanding achievements and contributions members make by electing a Woman of the Year from our membership and from within the greater community from applications received in May of each year. Awards are presented in June so that we may honor the Woman of the Year on American Businesswoman’s Day on Sept. 22 and throughout our chapter year. We held our final 2024 - 2025 Chapter luncheon in June and presented one award in person and one via video submission as the presenter and honoree were both travelling! Our awards committee, Christine McCloskey Chittenden, Kristina Powers Rose, and Nikki Slusher had no trouble selecting the ABWA Member Woman of the Year. She has touched all our lives with her leadership, compassion, and frankly - her top-tier speaker introductions - Sherri Blevins!

Sherri has served as our Vice President of Programming for the past two years, and she has brought us phenomenal speakers month after month. But she brought more than that. She brought heart, excellence, and connection to every single meeting.

Sherri owned a driving school for over 20 years and after retiring from her business, took up public office on the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors, where she advocated for children and safety for all. She never stopped showing up for her community, and for the many causes she holds dear. Her volunteerism, advocacy, and constant support for nonprofits, seniors, first responders, and other women are unmatched.

Sherri has the rare gift of leading without ego, giving without expectation, and lifting others even when no one’s looking. But we see her. And today, we’re turning the spotlight back around, where it absolutely belongs.

Sherri, thank you for being the kind of person who reminds us what servant leadership truly looks like. Your presence in ABWA, and in our wider community has made a lasting impact on so many of us. We are incredibly lucky to have you as a mentor, a cheerleader, and most of all a friend.

Congratulations on being our 2025 ABWA Member of the Year. You are so loved, and you are so deserving.

It was very clear to our awards committee, consisting of Kristina Powers Rose, Christine McCloskey Chittenden and Nikki Slusher, that our membership felt these two women embodied the true spirit of leadership, service, connection, and empowerment!

Our Community Woman of the Year winner is Marissa Bowman Smith!

Marissa, former educator and coach for nine years in both Virginia and South Carolina, is the Vice President of Membership Engagement with the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, serving since October 2022. Marissa grew up in the New River Valley and is passionate about helping individuals and businesses succeed. She advocates for our local community through Chamber resources to benefit the economy, as well as creating and running Cheers! New River Valley, a local source for all things NRV including hot spots, travel, events and more. Her ability to bring people together, to shine a light on local businesses, and to make every single Chamber member feel seen and valued - is nothing short of amazing!

Marissa was repeatedly nominated for this award by women in our group whose lives and work have been bettered because of her. We will celebrate Marissa at our August luncheon since she was unable to attend our June luncheon. Congratulations, Marissa! Thank you for all you do for our business community!
