I’m very excited to announce the official start of my homecoming campaign!!! As many of you know, Virginia Tech’s homecoming is unique in that all candidates run on philanthropic platforms. I’m looking forward to finally sharing my platform and personal connections to it. Orange and Maroon supporting Red, White, and Blue is dedicated to helping disabled veterans and military families who have suffered a loss. In May of 2000, my family suffered the irreplaceable loss of my dad, USMC Capt. James J. Morris. Through this campaign, I want to aid military veterans and families who have suffered similar losses to my family. Before coming to college, I really had no idea what resources were available to my family to help cope with our loss. Because of many generous organizations, I was able to meet other families similar to my own and create an established network of friends and new family.
Additionally, veterans who have suffered from disabilities often suffer in silence and with the help of the hokie community, I want to raise money and awareness so that those affected by loss no longer have to suffer in silence.
As a Hokie community, we all have friends, family, and even student peers who may have been affected by this, or have the potential to be affected in the future. Let’s all do our part this homecoming to remember those who didn’t get to come home.
