Peacework

Peacework Cross-sector solutions for sustainable development Peacework started in 1989 with a belief in the power of collaboration to build a better world.

We started small, bringing together volunteer engineers from the U.S. and the Soviet Union to Esteli, Nicaragua in the wake of the Cold War to rebuild communities alongside displaced families. In that first project, we learned that the best way to make positive social change is through diversity โ€” of sectors, cultures, and ideas โ€” and we've been doing it ever since. Now more than ever, our shared

global challenges require the innovation of diverse voices. For over 25 years, Peacework has expanded the impact of creative collaboration in 25+ countries alongside academic institutions, corporations, government agencies, civil society organizations, and community leaders to accelerate positive social change. Actualizing the capacity for this kind of change and scale means bringing together the right people, the right resources, and at the right time:

Peacework is that convener.

Last week was filled with learning, connection, and growth! ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿ“Š

We were honored to support an incredible group of Business students from the Miami Herbert Business School as we partnered with Pueblo a Pueblo to share valuable tools and knowledge for their community projects. Volunteers supported financial literacy and entrepreneurship training for local beekeepers, youth leaders, and womenโ€™s savings groups, helping strengthen skills while generating new ideas for future growth and community impact. The group also experienced an Apitourism tour, learning more about beekeeping, sustainability, and local entrepreneurship. ๐Ÿโœจ

A huge thank you to our local partners Pueblo a Pueblo for making this meaningful exchange possible and for their continued commitment to community-led development. ๐ŸŒŽ๐Ÿค

Impact by the numbers:

๐Ÿ’— 81 pap smears provided

Beyond the clinics, the team also donated surplus supplies to BFLA Dangriga and Hillside Clinic, extending their impact even further.

Weโ€™re proud of the compassion, professionalism, and teamwork this group demonstrated throughout the week. Thank you for your commitment to service and global health!

๐ŸŒโœจ A group of engineering students from Virginia Tech has just landed in Peru, where theyโ€™ll spend the next 10 days contributing their skills to infrastructure projects at the incredible Potato Park โ€” a unique biocultural reserve high in the Andes that protects native potato biodiversity and supports Quechua farming communities. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

Through hands-on collaboration, theyโ€™ll be supporting sustainable development while learning from local knowledge keepers who steward one of the worldโ€™s most important centers of agricultural heritage. Stay tuned for updates from the field! ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿฅ”

Nine University of Arkansas students are spending their summer working with Peacework in Dangriga, Belize, supporting local communities through various projects. The agriculture team is assisting local farmers with grant applications and data collection. A small group is raising funds for two guilds in Punta Gorda to provide school supplies. Others are enhancing local marketing efforts, including collaborating with Bocawina National Park on their new glamping packages and working with Sabal's Cassava Factory Tours. They've also been delivering entrepreneurship training at the Ecumenical High School. They are about halfway through their internships, and we are so grateful for their efforts!
