I just wanted to apologize for being out of touch lately!!! I have had a pretty rough few weeks and am still having a rough time :(
On April 19th, I fell and broke my foot in 2 places, dislocated my knee and fractured my knee cap. I broke the 5th metatarsal in my foot- which is the long bone that goes along the outside of my foot towards my little toe. I broke it at the ankle end and not the toe end, if that makes any sense. I was instructed to keep ALL weight off my foot, live on crutches with my foot in a boot and keep off of it and elevated as much as absolutely possible! Every time I stood up, my leg from the knee down would change colors to a blackish-purple, which honestly, was more than enough to keep me seated! Over the next 4 weeks, I was at the doctor 6 times, had 5 x-rays and an MRI.
On May 13th, they discovered I had actually bruised the bones within my knee joint and also had a fluid pocket under my knee cap. They also discovered the break in my foot suddenly got worse and the 3-4 bone chips were separating and fusing to the wrong bones which was causing the joint to solidify. Surgery on my foot was scheduled for the earliest appointment available which was one May 22nd and an appointment with a knee specialist was made for May 28th.
Since surgery, I have lived on my couch, unable to do much of anything and honestly, the pain is worse than anything I have ever felt- including the delivery of my 2 children (via c-section)! I have been told that if I put ANY weight on my foot, the titanium hook plate the doctor used to secure the bone in the correct position will snap in half. The reason is because where the bone broke is right where the tendon attaches to the bone and unfortunately, as strong as titanium is, it is no match for tendons. This also means there is a minimum healing time of 10-12 weeks at the least and with NO weight on my foot at all- not even resting the toe of my boot on the floor when standing! Hopefully, if everything heals correctly, I will be able to begin walking mid to late August.
Again, I apologize for not posting more than I have, but I hope you all can understand a little better.
the photos attached are of my 1st x-ray that shows the breaks
the 2nd photo shows the x-ray that shows the separation
there is one photo to show what a hook plate is and does
the other photo is of the tendons in the foot-
