Dear Light Group,
I have just returned from spending over a month in the Philippines, which has the third largest Catholic population on Earth (after Brazil and Mexico). Reflecting their nation’s Catholicism, Filipinos like to jumpstart Christmas, and towards the end of my stay, I noticed that Christmas decorations and messages were going up on stores in Manila.
While in the Philippines, one night, as I was about to sleep, I listened to one of Jim Goure’s lectures (I have several of them on my phone), which he evidently was giving one December. He started by reading from the second chapter of Matthew, which talks about the birth of Christ and the visit of the Wise Men. I found myself moved by this lecture, so if you’ll permit me, I, too, will get a jumpstart on Christmas by summarizing what Jim said.
That second chapter of Mathew begins with the Wise Men going to Jerusalem and asking around town, “Where is he that is born King of the Jews? We have seen his star in the east, and we have come to worship him.”
King Herod got wind of this and was troubled, so he gathered the chief priests and scribes and asked them where this King of the Jews would be born, to which the priests responded, “In Bethlehem.” With that bit of information, Herod called for the Wise Men and said to them, “Go and search diligently for the young child, and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.”
The Wise Men, following the star until it was over the birthplace, entered the house and fell down and worshipped Jesus. They also brought Jesus gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
God warned these Wise Men not go return to Herod, and they “departed into their own country another way” (the title of Jim’s lecture was, “Going the Other Way”).
Joseph, the father of Jesus, also had a dream, in which an angel told him, “Arise and take the young child and his mother and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word, for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.”
In his lecture, Jim took all of this as a metaphor for the birth of the Christ in all of us. He began by talking about how we initially search for the Christ outside ourselves (as did the Wise Men). In our case, we travel, read books, search for holy people - all the while looking for the Light in someone so we can find the way. We want the Christ to manifest for us. We want to see him, to hear him, to be touched by him, so that we, too, can be changed. Eventually, we become aware that the Christ is within, that the Kingdom of Heaven is within.
On this pathway to the Christ within, we know we must purify. In the story of Jesus’s birth, the gold brought by the Wise Men is symbolic of the purity of the mineral kingdom. In our bodies are minerals, and, according to Jim, “We’ve put a lot of junk and dirt in the mineral kingdom [within us] - in the food we take in.” To purify our food, Jim recommended putting our hands around our food and declaring, “The Love and Light flowing through my hands changes this food and drink and makes it perfect, just for me.” Jim told the story of a woman from California whose body was badly deteriorating from cancer. By putting her hands around her food and using Jim's prayer, she realized her food had to be holy and that it was making her body holy. Within three months, she was healed of cancer. Jim’s observation was that, “We must purify the mineral kingdom within ourselves. When it has been purified, it is like gold that we are presenting to this Christ within” When the mineral, plant, and animal kingdoms within us have been purified, the Christ is born.
This birth of the Christ within us is instantly in need of protection - protection from the man kingdom that wants to stop the Christ from manifesting. There is fear in the man kingdom (as there was in Herod and the chief priests and scribes) that they will lose their strength, their power, their world. This fear in man requires that when the Christ is born within us that this part of us be protected from man’s thoughts and emotions so the Christ can grow and mature. Egypt, in the story of Jesus, is symbolic of protection, of where the Light is, and the Light is the one thing that can protect the Christ. We protect this Christ by saying, “I am in a bubble of Light, and only Light can come to me and only Light can be here.” By repeating this, we have taken the Christ to Egypt so it can mature and so it can take on man’s thoughts and emotions and not be disturbed. It is not enough to be a Christ child. It is enough when we have matured and are doing the works and the greater works that Jesus said we could do.
God speaks to us in dreams - as it did to the Wise Men and to Joseph - until we get into that consciousness that is beyond the Christ: pure Light, pure Love, pure Truth. We then have not only purified the mineral, plant, and animal kingdoms, we have raised the man kingdom into the Christ kingdom.
It is then that the Creator can become one with us, as Jesus promised.
That is the story of the Christ, of us going the other way from the mass thought of mankind, of the evolution of the kingdoms into the Christ and eventually into the Creator, where God is amongst us and we see and talk to God face-to-face.
With that, I’ll leave you with the prayer Jim spoke to conclude his lecture. Just note in his prayer where we are seeing the Creator - in everyone.
“Thank you, God, for everything, for everyone, for the Christ in each of us, for maturing this Christ so that we can walk free and grow more into, ‘I and the Father are one,’ so we can see this Father, Creator, face-to-face, in everyone. Thank you, God, for making it so. Amen.”
Love and Light,
Tully
