The INTO LIGHT Project We educate the community about addiction as a disease.

The INTO LIGHT Project fights the stigma of drug addiction by organizing public exhibitions featuring portraits of those lost to addiction, paired with narratives to learn about their lives.

Emily’s Hope is partnering with The INTO LIGHT Project to bring an art exhibition to the South Dakota Art Museum in Brookings, opening February 1, 2027. The project honors people who have lost their lives to substance use disorder through hand-drawn graphite portraits and their stories. If you have lost a loved one to substance use disorder or related causes, we would be honored to share their story.

The first 30 submissions will be accepted, and there is no cost to participate. Submissions are open through November 1, 2026, or until 30 submissions are received. Each loved one will be honored with a portrait displayed in the exhibition, and families will receive the original portrait to keep when the exhibition closes on April 25, 2027.

You can learn more and submit your loved one’s story using the link in the comments. Please note that this application can be long, likely taking an hour or more, and can be very emotional.

LINEUP is finalized 🚨🚨

Join us on Sunday for UI ARC's 2nd Annual Benefit Concert!

This event will be hosted at The Englert Theatre from 2-5 PM on October 11th. The focus of this event is to raise community awareness of substance use disorders, eliminate stigma surrounding substance use, engage in thoughtful and respectful dialogue, and promote compassionate care of those whose lives are impacted by substance use disorders. See local performers such as Dave Zollo and The Surf Zombies come together to share a passion and understanding of the world of addiction care!

Any donations will go towards funding UI ARC's educational and outreach efforts, including maintenance of the INTO LIGHT portraits.

INTO LIGHT Project's Community Traveling Collection (CTC) is now in Keene, New Hampshire.

The Community Traveling Collection (CTC) of INTO LIGHT Project’s Drug Addiction: Real People, Real Stories - New Hampshire, is now on view at Keene State College’s Mason Library through November 2.

The exhibit brings portraits and stories of Granite Staters lost to substance use disorder into the community, continuing important conversations around understanding, compassion, and stigma.

We’re grateful to Keene State College’s Alcohol and Other Drugs Committee for helping these stories continue their journey across New Hampshire.

Less than one month left to submit your loved one’s story!

Emily’s Hope is partnering with the South Dakota Art Museum to bring The INTO LIGHT Project to South Dakota. Families who have lost a loved one to overdose are invited to submit a portrait to honor their loved one and share their story. It is a beautiful way to honor their loved one, and after the exhibit closes, the family gets to keep the graphite drawing.

It is free to submit, and submissions are open through November 1, or until 30 submissions are received.

This is what it looks like to pay it forward. 🩶

After losing her son, Zach, Ann Aschoff has found a meaningful way to turn love and loss into action—helping bring people together through the Annual Addiction Awareness Benefit Concert, supporting the Addiction and Recovery Collaborative - UI ARC and INTO LIGHT Project's Continuing the Conversation exhibit in Iowa.

On Sunday, October 11, from 2–5 PM, join them at The Englert Theatre in Iowa City for an afternoon of music, spoken word, and community.

Join the UI Addiction & Addiction and Recovery Collaborative - UI ARCfor the 2nd Annual Addiction Awareness Benefit Concert on Sunday, October 11 at The Englert Theatre in Iowa City. Enjoy an afternoon of music, spoken word, and fellowship in support of all those impacted by substance use.

Save a Life Day is coming to Central Vermont for the first time!

On September 24, the Central Vermont Prevention Coalition will host a free community event in Barre offering naloxone (Narcan), overdose prevention information, and harm reduction resources to anyone who wants to be prepared to save a life.

We’re especially grateful that the Vermont Association for Mental Health & Addiction Recovery (VAMHAR) will bring INTO LIGHT Project’s Continuing the Conversation portraits to the event, sharing the faces and stories of Vermonters lost to overdose alongside resources that can help prevent future loss.

This is what it means to continue the conversation. 🧡

Over the past week, the UI Addiction and Recovery Collaborative has brought INTO LIGHT Project’s Continuing the Conversation exhibit to events across Iowa—from Prairie Ridge’s ribbon cutting in Mason City, to CRUSH’s Overdose Awareness event in Cedar Rapids, to the North Iowa Harm Reduction Coalition’s International Overdose Awareness Day gathering.

We are incredibly grateful to the UI Addiction and Recovery Collaborative for carrying these portraits and stories into communities across Iowa.
