TOMORROW, Saturday October 17: our friends at Short Sleeves Coffee will be donating 50% of the day’s profits from drink sales to Hammer & Heart, for their 2nd Annual Pay-What-You-Can-Day. 🍁OCTOBER DONATION NEEDS🍁

There are so many ways you can help SVCM care for our neighbors in need, including monetary donations, volunteering, and donations of goods. However you choose to support our ministry, we truly appreciate you! For those interested in donating goods, here’s what we need most this October:

CLOTHING CLOSET:
🔸Sheet sets, all sizes 🚨highest priority for Queen🚨
🔸Blankets and comforters, all sizes
🔸Pots, pans, dishes, silverware
🔸Adult backpacks
🔸Incontinence bed underpads
🔸Baby wipes

FOOD PANTRY NEEDS:
🔹Canned meat
🔹16oz. Ball canning jars with lids (or similar)
🔹Laundry detergent
🔹Period pads
🔹Deodorant
🔹Toilet paper

Please drop off donations at our back porch Monday - Friday 9AM - 2:30PM. We can provide a donation receipt if you’d like one!

NeighborCare will have their primary and urgent care clinic this Wednesday, October 14, 9AM - noon. Spanish interpretation is available. Please call (828) 669-9404 ext 232 for our soonest available appointment. 📲

NeighborCare will also be offering free health screenings during the Bounty & Soul market this Saturday, October 17 at ArtSpace Charter School. No appointment needed! 🩺🍎🥦

SVCM’s Crisis Ministry will be open for regular hours this week, Monday - Friday, 9AM - 3PM. Please call or arrive by 2:30PM, so we can hopefully help you the same day. 🕝

Due to a personal family matter, our Crisis Ministry will be closing early today at noon. We will reopen for regular hours at 9AM this Monday, October 12. Thank you for your understanding and have a great weekend!

The rain held off for us on Sunday! 🌥 We were blessed with near-ideal conditions to hold the walk and block party outdoors. We’re thrilled to share that 21 sponsors and about 250 walkers helped us raise $32,769! Thanks be to God! All these proceeds will go towards direct, loving assistance for neighbors in need.

For the second year, we walked through the heart of Beacon Village together. 👟 We hope our presence offers a tangible reminder to the people of Swannanoa that they do not walk alone — we walk alongside our neighbors as they continue to rebound from Helene. The rebuilt homes and creative new businesses all along the route are signs of Swannanoa’s amazing resilience. 🌄

It was a heartwarming time in community together! And we loved seeing the cute pups sporting their new Bark for Your Neighbor bandanas. 🐶 We want to give a special shout-out to those who helped make this event such fun:

🔸 Good Company Pizza and Short Sleeves Coffee donated delicious pizza and coffee after the walk. Please go support them!
🔸 Owen High School JROTC provided ice-cold water bottles to thirsty walkers.
🔸 The Big Deal Band entertained us with live bluegrass music at the block party.
🔸 Morning Explorers Preschool set up a Children’s Fun Zone that was a hit with the kiddos.
🔸 Sadie Simpson from the YMCA led warm-up stretches before the walk.
🔸 The Blessing Project — our 10% partner this year — brought their Blessing Bus, where folks could learn how to make a blessing bag.
🔸 Our community partners came to table at the block party: Black Mountain Counseling Center, Rotary Club of Black Mountain and the Swannanoa Valley, and Safe Shelter.
🔸 The Walk for Your Neighbor committee planned every detail over many months.
🔸 Dozens of volunteers helped with this event. Rotary volunteers were stationed along the routes to guide walkers. We simply could not do the walk without you!

ALL of you went the extra mile for your neighbors this Sunday! We are deeply grateful! ❤
