Thank you for voting us Best Community Garden of WNC! ☀️🌱🌻

It’s an honor to be recognized by our community in this way, and if you haven’t heard of us, hopefully this gives you some incentive to come check us out!

The Dr. John Wilson Community Garden just celebrated its 22nd year in operation, and over that time we’ve developed and maintained thousands of square feet of growing space organically, a fruit and nut orchard, a native plant trail, a community wide composting system, riverbank restoration projects, taught many workshops (check out our page for 2 coming up this month - Sorghum Fest and Plant Spirit Medicine Workshop) and hosted hundreds of volunteers.

Here’s to years and years of plants, joy, and growing to come!

10/05/2026

On Thursday, October 29th we will be joined by gardener Mary Lane to lead us through a Plant Spirit Medicine meditation and workshop!

Join us in connecting with the land and deeply feeling the power of plants.

Registration is encouraged but not required.

Happy Fall Y'all! Thursday, Oct. 22 at 5pm, we are teaming up with Utopian Seed Project again to press juice from the canes we grew with the bicycle press for making molasses! We will also get to taste the molasses from last year's crop. Tiffany Schultz, leader of the Leicester Library Giving Garden and chef will be serving gluten free sorghum snacks, and we will get to learn about cooking with sorghum. Join us!

A huge and glorious THANK YOU is due to all of you who joined us for our garden party this past Sunday!

We had so much fun and loved seeing everyone enjoying the beauty and serenity of the garden.

We’re tallying the numbers to see if we made it to our fundraising goal 🤞🤞 It means so much to have your support in continuing to feed our community!

If you didn’t get the chance to join us but you’d still like to support our mission, you can donate through our website. 💚

Will we see you at the Flowers Everywhere Garden Party Fundraiser?

Here’s our lineup for the afternoon - only a few days away!

All proceeds go to supporting our mission to Grow, Share, and Educate in the Swannanoa Valley. This means growing local, organic food to share with our community for free, providing access to low barrier education through internships, workshops, and classes, and creating partnerships with other food organizations to increase food sovereignty and access in our area.

This event helps us make all of this work happen and gives us a chance to get together an celebrate all we’ve accomplished! Let’s party!

Have you walked along our native plant trail?

Jam packed with native, shade tolerant native plants, you’ll have the chance to meet many of those plants and create something to remember them by in this activity led by garden intern Ennis!

This light-sensitive art strategy leaves a beautiful shadow of your chosen plant on the page after being exposed to sunlight. Get creative and experiment with the intersection of art and nature.

Our garden party still has tickets available - link to purchase in our bio.
