Things are picking up in the garden! 🌿🌷🐝

After a very productive winter that included installing a wash and pack station, pruning our fruit and nut tree orchard with Marc Williams, harvesting spinach, kale, cabbage, collards and sprouting broccoli for our distribution partner Bounty & Soul, and our Garden Manager Leonora teaching community classes on the foundations of gardening - we are finally getting the ball rolling for spring.

We’ve got our permits for construction to begin digging a well, designed a drip irrigation system, and are about to install a walk in cooler thanks to a donation from our partners at Bounty & Soul. All of these changes will make our operations that much more efficient and allow us to bring more free and nutritious food to our community!

All the while we’re turning over our beds and getting plants like potatoes, scallions, onions, carrots and radishes in the ground with lots of help from our awesome crew of volunteers.

We are working hard on setting up our garden event today! Think lots of flowers, mountain scenery, and a big ole circus tent 👀

This fundraiser greatly benefits our little garden, allowing us to hire interns to tend the beds that grow food for donation to Bounty & Soul, distributed free of charge to our community.

Support our cause and have some FUN! Tomorrow, 4-7pm at 99 White Pine Dr, Black Mountain (in the community garden!)

Intern Marisa Figueroa has focused her internship on learning about the medicinal benefits and applications of various herbs, flowers, and plants that can be found in the community garden. 🌱🌸💐🌻

Using this knowledge, along with the guidance of herbalist Cindi Quay, she will be crafting two herbal teas for us to taste :

👠 Lady Slipper Tea - a vibrant blend of hibiscus, lemongrass, lemon verbena, rooibos, rose petals, and cooling mints packed with antioxidants and vitamin C to refresh, restore and delight your senses.

🌀 Sacred Calm Tea - a soothing blend with mint, lemon balm, tulsi and milky oats. Crisp, uplifting, and refreshing - this tea is like a cool breeze on a summer day!

Sip and chat with her about all the ways plants can help and heal us on Sunday, September 7th at our Flowers Everywhere! Garden Party Fundraiser. Tickets available through the link in our bio!
