From South Africa to Black Mountain, some stories remind us what community is all about.
The Bush Farmhouse, owned by Mark Henegan and his sons, brings the flavors, art, and welcoming spirit of South African culture to our valley. After Hurricane Helene devastated the restaurant, the Henegan family faced an overwhelming road to recovery. But neighbors stepped up, lending a hand, sharing resources, and helping them rebuild.
As part of the Black Mountain Blues Experience Media Workshop, student photojournalists captured this story of resilience, family, food, and the power of people coming together.
We’re proud that the Blues Experience creates opportunities to celebrate not only the music, but also the people and stories that make our community so special.
