Every year, my friend Byron Ballard asks us to post a picture of ourselves with the hashtag whatwitcheslooklike. Not in a "witch" costume or ritual robes. Just yourself as you look to dispense some of the stereotypes and misunderstandings. Thank you Byron Ballard

Growing Your Own Women's Circle or Red Tent; Creating Community with Women

Live Online Workshop
Saturday, September 17, 1 – 4 pm ET

It's more important than ever that we gather together as women.
Women’s Circles are an important way for women to connect with each other and with themselves. The Red Tent is a multi-generational woman-only space where women can honor the cycles of our lives. It is a place for women to speak the unspeakable, to name our experiences, our fears and joys of womanhood, and to connect with other women. A Red Tent Ritual is a sacred space set aside to sing, to speak our truth and to sink into the cycles. All women are welcome in the Red Tent, whether you are bleeding, past bleeding, or yet to bleed; whether you have a womb or have had a hysterectomy.
If you want to start facilitating Women’s Circles and Red Tents or want to empower yourself in your own practice, this class will guide you into the Women’s Mysteries of the Red Tent. We will talk about the history (herstory) of the Red Tent and the power of women’s space. You will learn basic structure of ritual creation, tips about facilitating ritual, how to set up the physical space, as well as many songs, chants, and meditations.
After taking this class, you will feel equipped to offer Women’s Circles and/or Red Tent Circles for the women in your life and have more structure for your own personal practice. Please join me in the Red Tent!

Tonight, as the moon wanes into darkness, I enter the Red Tent. As I bleed the blood of life, I enter the Red Tent.

The Red Tent is a multi-generational woman-only space where women can honor the cycles of our lives. It is a place for women to speak the unspeakable, to name our experiences, our fears and joys of womanhood, to share with other women, to sing, to just be. A Red Tent Ritual is a sacred space set aside to sing, to speak our truth, and to be together as women.

"Women’s Mysteries are the physical, emotional, and psychic life cycle passages that women share by having been born female, by having experienced girlhood, and by living as women in a patriarchal society."

Every year at Samhaintide, I research and find a name and a story of a woman who was killed during the Burning Times. So many people, mostly women, have been tortured and killed, accused of witchcraft. So often, these have been women who stood up for themself, had some small amount of power, or were just a little different in some way. It feels like long ago, but the Burning Times are still with us. Women are still tortured and killed for alleged witchcraft. The legacy of the Burning Times is still with all women everywhere, in our blood, in our bones, and in our culture. It's important we remember. It's important we remember that there are names- actual people, lives, stories- behind the numbers.

Rebecca Lemp died in 1590. There is no record of her birth. She was one of 32 women convicted of witchcraft following a witch hunt in Nördlingen, Germany. Lemp had six children and was married to Peter Lemp, a well-regarded accountant. In April 1590, while he was away on business, she was arrested. Her children wrote to her while she was imprisoned. She wrote to her husband of her innocence, convinced that she would be freed. Lemp was tortured on five occasions and confessed. She wrote again to him, requesting he send her something with which she could end her life. After her letter was intercepted, the court additionally charged her with attempted su***de. The court coerced Lemp into writing another letter to Peter confessing that she was a witch. Rebecca Lemp was tortured once more before being burned at the stake on 9 September 1590. We remember you, Rebecca.

Hello! Here’s a little about me-
I’m a Dianic Wiccan Priestess living in the mountains of Appalachia. I’m passionate about ritual and its importance in our lives. I’m ordained as a Priestess of Cycles– I focus on the many cycles around us and within us. I’m also a Priestess of the Red Tent, and much of my work is with women and Women’s Mysteries. I have been studying and practicing the ritual arts for over 20 years. I'm a community Priestess facilitating rituals, ceremonies, and magick for large groups, small groups, and individuals. I have supported many people through the process of creating their own personal ritual and in finding their path through life, both as an instructor and as a counselor.
