๐Ÿ’š Today is World Mental Health Day ๐Ÿ’š

At Black Mountain Counseling, we believe that mental health matters. Every person deserves to feel seen, heard, supported, and connected.

Every day, we have the privilege of witnessing the power of compassion, resilience, and community. And we know that none of this important work happens alone.

It takes sweet minds, kind hearts, and a community that cares. ๐Ÿ’•

So, what better way to celebrate World Mental Health Day than by celebrating the wonderful people who help make our mission possible?

๐ŸŒธ JOIN US TOMORROW! ๐ŸŒธ

Sweet Minds & Kind Hearts
๐Ÿ“… Sunday, October 11 | 3โ€“5 PM
๐Ÿ“ Peri Social House | Black Mountain

Come enjoy sweet treats from local vendors, connect with neighbors and friends, and let us celebrate YOU and the difference you make in our community!

Because caring for our mental health isnโ€™t just about what happens behind closed doors. Itโ€™s also about the connections we build, the kindness we share, and the ways we show up for one another.

Together, weโ€™re building a community where mental health matters and no one has to navigate lifeโ€™s challenges alone. ๐Ÿ’š

We hope to see you tomorrow! Bring a friend! ๐Ÿ’•

๐Ÿ’š If youโ€™re feeling anxious about the weather this weekend, youโ€™re not alone.

For many in our community, the approaching hurricane and recent anniversary of Hurricane Helene may be bringing up some difficult feelings.

Anxiety. Fear. Uncertainty. Memories of what we experienced, what we lost, and what weโ€™ve worked so hard to rebuild.

These feelings are normal. And they are understandable.

After experiencing a traumatic event, our minds and bodies can respond to reminders of that experience, even when we know our circumstances may be different today.

As we navigate the coming days, we encourage you to be gentle with yourself and with one another.

๐Ÿ’š Take breaks from the news and social media when you need to.

๐Ÿ’š Stay informed through trusted sources, but give yourself permission to step away.

๐Ÿ’š Check in with your neighbors, friends, and loved ones.

๐Ÿ’š Reach out for support when things feel overwhelming.

๐Ÿ’š Remember that you donโ€™t have to carry these feelings alone.

Our community has been through so much. Healing takes time, and it doesnโ€™t always follow a straight line.

At Black Mountain Counseling, we want you to know that whatever youโ€™re feeling right now, your feelings are valid, support is available, and you are not alone.

Weโ€™re here for our community, through the difficult days and the brighter ones ahead. ๐Ÿ’š

Two years ago today, Hurricane Helene came through our valley and changed so much of what we knew.

Everyone carries this day in their own way. Some of us are remembering people we lost. Some are thinking of homes, businesses, and places that look different now. Some are remembering the neighbors who arrived with chainsaws, casseroles, and bottled water before anyone asked. And some are just feeling tired or unsettled without quite knowing why. All of it makes sense.

The storm left marks on our land, and it left marks on us too. Healing from something this big takes time, and it rarely moves in a straight line. Anniversaries can bring up feelings we thought we had put away. That isn't a setback. It's part of how people heal.

We've been honored to walk with so many of you over these two years. We'll keep doing that for as long as it takes. Caring for our minds and hearts is part of rebuilding, and no one should have to do it alone.

If today feels heavy, please reach out. We're here: blackmountaincounseling.org

If you're in crisis, call or text 988, any time.

Tomorrow, join us and our partners at Gather & Grow for the Swannanoa Valley, a free Lunch & Learn from 12โ€“2 PM at the Swannanoa Resilience Hub.

This week marks two years since Hurricane Helene changed our valley.

For many of us, this time of year brings back memories of those first uncertain days, and of everything that came after. Some of us lost homes, businesses, neighbors, and loved ones. Many are still rebuilding, still waiting, still carrying it.

If you're feeling heavier, more on edge, or more tired than usual right now, you're not alone, and there's nothing wrong with you. Anniversaries can stir up grief and stress even when we thought we'd moved past it. And if you're feeling okay, that's alright too. There's no right way to feel.

What we've seen over these two years is a community that shows up for each other. We're honored to keep walking alongside you.

On Monday, September 28, we're partnering with Resources for Resilience, the Buncombe County Long-Term Recovery Group, and the Swannanoa Resilience Hub for Gather & Grow for the Swannanoa Valley, a free Lunch & Learn from 12โ€“2 PM at the Swannanoa Resilience Hub. It's a space to share what we've been through, lean on one another, and practice simple tools for managing stress.

We have so much love for our clients at BMC. Some beautiful mugs appeared in our lobby this week, all with words of inspiration and affirmation; โ€œSmall wins add up!โ€ and โ€œI am enough just as I amโ€ are just two!

We discovered that one of our wonderful clients made and gifted these mugs to us. We are so grateful to all of our clients for healing with us and reminding us why we do the work that we do โ™ฅ๏ธ
