Tuesday, 11/28 Update - With a heavy heart, we made the decision to help this sweet boy crossover The Rainbow Bridge. We named him Twitch, and unfortunately he was just too weak to regulate his body temperature, and was also suffering from Distemper š¶šš.
Thank you to those who donated to his care. We at least find some comfort that he did not die freezing, and alone.
This was and is 100% Preventableā¦
This is Montana. Remote Montana. Rescuing animals is not for the weak. It is physically exhausting, as well as emotionally and financially draining. When the temps are below freezing, and in the single digits, it makes each rescue situation much more dire. Saturday night, we received a call from an elderly woman, who witnessed a dog collapse on her property. She was able to bring him into her home, fed him, and kept him safe for the night. Based on the pictures provided, we did not think he would make it through the night. Sunday morning, we had a volunteer pick him up, and we met in Conrad, MT (as she already spent hours on the road). Thankfully, Dr. Norton, over at Best Friends Animal Hospital, agreed to meet us that afternoon.
The evidence of neglect is astounding and is something that didnāt happen overnight. This doesnāt happen āon accident.ā No one forces you to have a dogā¦BUT if you get a dog or ANY other type of pet, knowing full well you will NEVER be able to feed or care for that animal, you are not a good person. I will refrain from getting on my soapbox about the importance of Spay/Neuter, for nowā¦
Upon his initial intake, his body temp was low, eyes were crusted shut, and he was unresponsive. His bloodwork, was better than expected. Although, his sodium level was high, due to severe dehydration. He also tested negative for Parvo. As of this evening, he is slowing improving. He was able to eat (with some assistance), but is still extremely weak.
This sweet soul is approximately 16-18 weeks old, appears to be an Aussie mix. He weighs a fraction of what he should. We have yet to name him, so if you have any ideas, please provide them in the comments below.
If youād like to donate for his care, we would greatly appreciate the helpā¤ļø:
