So true: https://www.facebook.com/share/14WAm1N8Ntj/
We spend billions telling people: you matter, help is available, don’t give up. And we should.
But we’re also sending a mixed message when the law and culture treat su***de as prevention-worthy for some people—and “compassionate care” for others. A recent Crux article points to a troubling pattern: https://cruxnow.com/interviews/2026/02/assisted-su***de-increases-rates-of-non-medical-su***de-statistics-show
In places that legalize physician-assisted su***de, overall (non-medical) su***de rates can rise—including Oregon, where the article cites a spike that peaked at 41% after legalization.
Human dignity means we don’t solve suffering by eliminating the sufferer. We respond with mental health care, real community, pain control, disability support, hospice and palliative care, and practical help for families—not a shortcut that tells the vulnerable their lives are negotiable.
