This poster was presented by Lisa Casarez at the Symposium of American Indian Languages (SAIL) this past week at the University of Arizona. Hiráaca Maa Aru Cáawi's mission, strategic goals, past events and initiatives were shared with a wider audience in the Native Revitalization and Reclamation field.

It was great to share our efforts and see what other Native language communities are doing for their languages.

We are expanding our board of directors and seeking people who share a vision for community-centered language work with the goal of bringing together individuals committed to language, culture, and community impact. If you are interested in learning more, or if you know someone who might be a great fit, we’d love to hear from you.

CALL FOR BOARD MEMBERS: We are looking for Board Members to help lead our organization! This would be a voluntary position that would include:

Providing leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for the organization, help guide its mission, ensure financial and ethical accountability, and support fundraising and community engagement. Directors attend regular meetings, contribute to decision-making, and serve as ambassadors for the organization’s goals and values.

Language isn’t just cultural — it’s connected to health.

When communities maintain their languages, they also maintain relationships: to food systems, to land-based practices, to identity, to collective responsibility. These protective factors influence wellness outcomes across generations.

Language revitalization isn’t only about words.
It’s about restoring systems of balance — socially, culturally, and physically.
