UMary Social Dance Club (SDC) meets every Sunday at 1PM in Chick's Place to learn all types of swing, ballroom, and other kinds of social dance!

SDC is still on! Come join us in Chick's Place this Sunday at 1 for some classic line dances, including the Cupid Shuffle and Footloose, as well as to meet your new club leaders. Nothing will stop us from enjoying the love of dance! 💃

Sophomore Theology major and Catholic Studies minor
What's your favorite dance style?
Country swing and salsa
Why are you excited to do this year for SDC?
I am excited to bring new ideas to SDC and to help others learn fun new ways to dance
Favorite SDC memory?
My favorite memory was at the slumber party dance because we built an amazing fort and we had a battle royal in the pillow fight section. I was also able to dress up in my Deadpool onesie and almost die from the heat

Give our new Mr. Secretary a warm round of dancing applause in the comments and a “hi Deadpool” when you see him on campus next fall! And stay tuned for next week when we meet our new membership chair, whose nickname is a little fishy.

For today's , meet our new Vice President, Clare Siverts!

What's your name and cabinet position?
-Clare Siverts, Vice President
What's your year and major?
-This is my last year of undergrad school, I am a special education and elementary education double major.
What's your favorite dance style?
-Right now west coast swing, not to be confused with country or east coast swing dancing.
Why are you excited to do this year for SDC?
-I am excited to get more people comfortable with dancing and to create a community of dancing on campus.
Favorite SDC memory?
-The Disney dance we did the first year I was at Umary! I was dressed as Esmerelda from Hunchback of Notre Dame and at one point in the night, Kylo Ren waltzed with the chicken from Moana.

For today's , meet your new Social Dance Club President, Mary Claire Talbot!

My name is Mary Claire Talbot, and I am the president of SDC. Last year, I was the membership Chair.
I will be a senior biology student this fall.
My favorite dance style is anything swing, but especially West Coast and Xacton swing. However, I also have a soft spot for Polka.
This year in SDC, I am excited for the chance to get to teach dances and to set up really fun dance themes for the year.
I really can't pick one favorite memory, because I have so many good ones, so I'll just name a couple in no particular order.
The most recent favorite memory was getting to perform in the Big Band dance preshow with Joe. We had a dance that was great and really fun to perform. Because the song we used was a duet between two men, I wore pants and a shirt with a vest. I had at least four people ask me beforehand why I was dressed as a waiter!
Another great memory was from my very first dance at UMary, the barefoot blue jeans dance. I met some people there who would turn out to be great friends, including the legend and then-SDC president, Patrick Jacob, and I was thrilled to meet so many people who loved dancing as much as I did.
Last memory I will relate was of our first pajama dance. It went until two a.m. with blanket races, pillow fights, and lots of good dancing. By the end, I was one of a small group of SDC regulars who were so tired that some of us were lying on the floor, but were determined not to leave until the dance was officially over. I love remembering the camaraderie, dedication, and absolute ridiculousness of the situation!

SDC Elections are this weekend!

Current members on the email list received the link to their emails this morning! Please vote and let us know who should take the place of this wonderful cabinet for the upcoming year!

Voting is available until tomorrow, Sunday the 19th at 1pm CT and the results will be posted that afternoon!

Hey Social Dancers! In light of the new letter sent out this morning, we are postponing Social Dance Club meetings until further notice. Let’s take Monsignor’s message to heart. We can be adults to take responsibility for others and be intentional about where we go. You can line dance in your room! Anyway, thank you for your understanding!

Hope everyone is enjoying the last bit of Spring Break! For those of you back on campus, we have a meeting today at 1pm and are starting a bit of Irish Dance to prepare for the Irish Hooley coming up! Hope to see you!
