The program provides an opportunity for low-income or at-risk children to enjoy positive interaction with local law enforcement and to have some fun. FOP volunteers are with area law enforcement agencies including Bismarck, Mandan and Lincoln Police Departments, and Burleigh and Morton County Sheriff’s Offices. This is neither a mentorship nor a special needs program but rather a way to bring a bit of joy at Christmas time to those less fortunate in our community. What does the child receive? Each child receives a $50 gift card to buy things for themselves. They are to Wal-Mart to shop and to lunch at McDonalds. How much does it cost? The program is free and is funded through business/community donations. Transportation between the drop-off/pickup location, Wal-Mart and McDonalds is provided. Who is eligible? The child must reside in Burleigh or Morton County and be attending school in grades K-6. We cannot accept children outside the eligibility range. How are the children selected? A selection committee reviews the nominations and selects the children who will participate in the program based on needs, family situation and other factors. How is the family notified? A FOP volunteer will contact the selected child’s parent/guardian to provide information and arrange the date on which the child will participate. Need more information? Contact the Missouri Valley FOP Foundation at (701) 426-4243. Please leave a message and one of our members will return your call as soon as possible.
