Western North Dakota Synod - ELCA 150 congregations of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) committed to sharing the good news of Jesus Christ. We are God’s children.

We are the Western North Dakota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. We have been given the free gift of salvation through Christ’s death and resurrection. We are a people who by the power of the Holy Spirit are sent to serve our neighbors. We gather for worship, listening to God’s Word which calls us to repentance and reminds us of God’s grace. We are a people who celebrate God’s means of grace at the font and table. We are a people who are sent into our world to live our faith in Christ. Synod Statistics:

163 Congregations with 54,946 baptized members
4 Outdoor Ministry Sites
1 Lutheran Campus Ministry Site – Minot State University
157 ordained pastors, 11 deacons (includes retired)

Safer Together: A Regional Conversation on Gun Violence
Tuesday, October 27, 2026
6:30–8:45 p.m. Central Time

Join people from across eight ELCA synods at regional gathering sites for the launch of Safer Together, a regional initiative creating space for learning, conversation, and faithful action around gun violence.

The evening will feature Dr. Jillian Peterson, presenting “Peace Making in an Epidemic of Gun Violence,” followed by Q&A and guided conversation grounded in ELCA teaching.

A WND Synod staff retreat would not be complete without…wait for it…ZUCCHINI! Congratulations, Murray, on your big win!

And thank you, Lord, for the incredible gifts you have woven together, along with a deep desire to invite leaders to sit together and be fed, and for communities of faith to make room at the table. Perhaps we will find Jesus waiting for us there.

Before meeting with leaders from Hettinger Lutheran, Calvary Lutheran (Lemmon) and Spencer Memorial Presbyterian (Lemmon), Pastor Mike and Bishop Lisa enjoyed the very cool artwork in downtown Lemmon, along with long-time Synodically-Authorized Minister, Tim Holdahl. It was a hope-filled evening, planning for Christ-centered ministry that is good for the neighbors.
