📍Montana is the leading U.S. producer of pulse crops like peas, lentils, and chickpeas!

Despite this massive production, an estimated 85% of what is grown in the state leaves without any added value. The Great Falls Development Alliance (GFDA) and the Montana Pulse Crop Committee are looking to change that. A new study from Agralytica highlights a strong business case for expanding mid-stream pulse processing in Montana, including cleaning, sorting, and milling.

🔍Ready to explore these opportunities?

Whether you are looking into toll processing or specialty food manufacturing, GFDA is here to support your business expansion. Learn more and read the full study here: https://bit.ly/3Q4R3Zk

📌NPGA Field Notes: USDA Announces Base Acre Update

The USDA has announced an important window for eligible landowners to review and potentially increase base acres for their farms!

From June 1 through August 31, 2026, eligible landowners can review their Base Allocation Summaries to prepare for enrollment in Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC) and Price Loss Coverage (PLC) programs. This is the first opportunity to update base acres since 2002, helping to ensure your safety net reflects your current operation.

Timeline: Review your summaries starting June 1. 📅 All actions must be completed by August 31, 2026.

How to Access: View your summaries online at: https://www.fsa.usda.gov/resources/income-support/arc-plc using your Login.gov

Need Assistance? If you don’t have a Login.gov account, contact your local FSA county office. 📞

Action Required: Farm operators and landowners should connect early to ensure historical planting records are accurate. Don't miss this chance to strengthen your farm's risk management for the 2026 crop year and beyond.

Wheat buyers aren't just looking for bushels—they're looking for protein. 📈

Research shows that wheat following a pulse crop (like field peas or chickpeas) consistently hits higher crude protein and wet gluten marks compared to continuous cereal rotations. Even if you’re cutting back on acres this year due to the 2026 market shifts, keeping pulses in your mix is what will help your wheat crop stand out at the elevator in the fall.

Invest in your soil today for a premium harvest tomorrow. 🌱
