Bishop Area Climbers Coalition An advocacy and stewardship group providing a voice for Eastern Sierra climbers.

As the Bishop Area Climbers Coalition, we believe we have the responsibility to care for the places we love and the people we share them with. By providing a unified voice, we highlight the contributions of rock climbers to our community and share in the stewardship of the areas in which we climb. By engaging with land managers, land-owners and other community groups, we provide an important resource to keep our activities sustainable, and promote responsible use of the land. The BACC is here to give voice to and celebrate climbing in the Eastern Sierra."

Winner best climbing film, BANFF! Watch it in Bishop Thursday 10/15. Link in bio for tix. ⛰️ Old Man Lightning, dir. Dawn Kish, 2025, 60 min. Cranky, yet witty bouldering legend John “Verm” Sherman has lost his mojo and is jonesing to regain it. What better way than to climb the world’s most famous boulder problem, Yosemite’s iconic Midnight Lightning? He climbed it 25 years ago, but since then the climb has gotten harder and Verm’s gotten softer due to beerlust and a third-degree burning passion for bird photography.
Standing in his way is his age (57), weight (200 lbs), dozens of injuries, and myriad health issues. Nevertheless, he’s stubborn and determined. Verm needs to save condors from extinction, and if leveraging his climbing celebrity will help, he’ll stop at nothing.
Verm enlists the assistance of Ryan “Meatball” Whited, a cheerfully sadistic personal trainer and musculoskeletal guru. A 6-month mission to whip Verm back into shape ensues, leading to a final confrontation with bouldering’s “Problem of Problems”.

It’s official! The Bishop Area Climbers Coalition is looking to hire our next Social Media Director!

Do you love climbing, storytelling, and creating engaging content? Join the Bishop Area Climbers Coalition and help tell the stories of our incredible climbing community and the Eastern Sierra!

This role is perfect for someone who is creative, organized, adaptable, and excited to help grow and engage the Bishop climbing community. You’ll have the opportunity to shape the BACC’s voice while working alongside a team dedicated to stewardship, access, and community. If you’re passionate about climbing and want to inspire stewardship, we’d love to hear from you!

It’s bittersweet to announce that Savanna Deger’s time on the Bishop Area Climbers Coalition is coming to an end.

Savanna has served as Communications Director and Social Media Director, making important information approachable and meaningful. Whether she was crafting social media posts, sharing stewardship messages, or helping tell long forgotten stories of our climbing community and lore, her work inspired countless people to recreate responsibly and deepen their appreciation for the Eastern Sierra. Savanna led her final project with the BACC with the Pine Creek T-shirt fundraiser, adding $13,000 towards our goals for the Pine Creek vault toilet.

Beyond her official role, Savanna’s curiosity and love for the outdoors were contagious. Thank you, Savanna, for your creativity, your thoughtfulness, and the countless hours dedicated to protecting and celebrating our climbing community. Your impact will continue to be felt on the trails, at the crags, and through the community you’ve helped strengthen.

We wish you all the best in your next adventures. Wherever the trail leads, we know you’ll continue to leave every place better than you found it!

For the last 10 years, the seasonal porta-potties have been the only option for human waste. Since this is a watershed, burying your waste is not an acceptable practice. In partnership with the Access Fund, we have supplied these seasonal toilets from May-Oct.

We’ve also seen an uptick in recreation in pine creek. The seasonal port-potties just ain’t cutting it. We need a long term solution for human waste.

After 9 years of advocacy, we received approval from the Forest Service last year! However, with the massive budget cuts across the country, we have been unable to receive any grant funds to date.

So, we came up with the idea of selling Pine Creek Shirts to help kick off awareness and fundraising to reach our $100,000 goal! All proceeds from these shirts will go directly to the Pine Creek toilet fund.

Why this matters
-This is the only local watershed without a permanent toilet.
-Supports year-round climbing, hiking, and all other recreation.
-Keeps the canyon clean by diverting human waste.

Shirts are available until May 26 at 11:59pm.
