People like you treasure the Eastern Sierra Nevada for many reasons: the awesome vistas, the working farms and ranches, the thriving fish and wildlife, and so many more. Our community recognizes that the land we share has long been used in a variety of ways. Our goal is to preserve a healthy balance of uses — from ranching to biking, wildlife habitats to favorite fishing spots — that can be sustained forever, ensuring a strong local economy and healthy environment for generations to come.

Please join us in welcoming Eric, Development & Marketing Director at Eastern Sierra Land Trust! Eric grew up in Ohio and has spent the better part of his life exploring mountains, rivers, open spaces, and the kinds of communities that form around them. He comes to ESLT after nearly seven years with the South Yuba River Citizens League, where he served in a series of roles culminating in Festival Director of the Wild & Scenic Film Festival.

Eric looks forward to connecting donors, members, and partners to the stories of the landscapes and conservation work that make the Eastern Sierra irreplaceable.

When he’s not at his desk, you’ll find him exploring the outdoors on foot, ski, or bike, listening to music and watching films, soaking in hot springs, creating Polaroid photography, or staring at maps while planning his next visit to somewhere he’s never been.

Meet one of the smallest species of rabbit in North America. The pygmy rabbit (Brachylagus idahoensis) weighs less than one pound–even as an adult. Sightings in the Eastern Sierra are rare, but they do occur. Their historical range is larger, and includes California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.

🦋 Join Eastern Sierra Land Trust on Wednesday, June 17, from 4-6 pm for our annual Pollinator Mixer! It’s almost National Pollinator Week (June 22-28), and we are celebrating early in ESLT’s backyard. Visit our events page for details: https://eslt.org/event/pollinator-mixer-2026/

These mixers are casual and a great opportunity to enjoy a cool beverage, snack on appetizers, and enjoy quality time with pro-pollinator pals. You can bond over your favorite pollinators (butterflies? hummingbirds? moths? bees?) or ask for gardening tips from people involved with ESLT's Pollinator Program.

We hope you can join us in our backyard at 250 N Fowler Street in Bishop, California. Check out our Demonstration Pollinator Garden in our front yard on your way in.

🌱Care about healthy habitats as much as we do? Then get outside and join the team at Eastern Sierra Land Trust for a Stewardship Day! Visit eslt.org/events to register.

This summer, ESLT's annual Stewardship Days at Conway Ranch are July 11 and July 25. Together, we can restore native plant communities and improve habitat for a wide array of wildlife — including the Bi-State sage-grouse. Your efforts directly support critical wetland and meadow ecosystems that provide shelter and nesting grounds for songbirds, waterfowl, raptors, and mammals.

If you can't wait until July to get your hands dirty, then join us on June 13 for the JB Memorial Mega Pull, which is at the tail-end of California Invasive Species Action Week! This event is in partnership with Mono County, Mono Lake Committee, Range of Light Group, California State Parks, Eastern Sierra Land Trust, and the U.S. Forest Service.

What stories does each rock hold? On the Adobe Valley Wetlands Tour this spring, people enjoyed a spontaneous geology lesson from Dr. Malcolm Pringle, a scientist, interpreter, and educator who holds a Ph.D. in geology and geophysics.

While at Eastern Sierra Land Trust's Antelope Lake Conservation Easement, Dr. Pringle held a piece of Bishop Tuff before passing it around for each person to touch. Bishop Tuff refers to the deposits of ash and pumice ejected during the enormous eruption that created Long Valley Caldera.

Thank you, Dr. Pringle, for the deep dive into the geology of the Adobe Valley!

➡ You can read more about Bishop Tuff, and its formation, from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) website: https://www.usgs.gov/volcanoes/long-valley-caldera/science/bishop-tuff-long-valley-caldera-california

How do YOU GardenFest? Do you scope out the scene first, before grabbing an empty box and filling it with pollinator plants? Do you find a shady spot near the band, Hay Blackbird, and enjoy the music? Today’s third-grade students are the future stewards, policy makers, farmers, ranchers, scientists, and artists of the Eastern Sierra. Youth education programs like ESLT’s Sunflower Kids Garden Program are a vital part of the puzzle to fostering deep connections with nature.

🌻 In this program, students from Bishop Elementary get to explore the Demonstration Pollinator Garden at Eastern Sierra Land Trust and plant their own sunflowers. Led by ESLT staff, these young learners get their hands dirty while learning about the lifecycle of plants, the vital role of local pollinators, and the quiet magic of germination as they plant and track their very own sunflowers.

It's always a good time to plant the seeds of curiosity and inspire the next generation to take care of the lands they love.

🌻 Thank you to the teachers and students at Bishop Elementary for another fabulous year of hands-on learning and fun! We're also deeply grateful for the County of Inyo: City of Bishop, whose grant support helps fund this program.
