Bishop CA Community Garden

Bishop CA Community Garden A community garden with garden plots for rent, a sharing garden, and demonstration gardens. Our mission is twofold.

A place to grow, to take a stroll, relax, and admire the fruits of the community's labor. The Friends of the Eastern Sierra Gardens is a non-profit organization involving Inyo-Mono Master Gardeners, United Methodist Social Services, The Bishop City Park, and individual community members. Many local organizations with an interest in horticulture have contributed to developing this quarter-acre faci

lity, which boasts a Demonstration Garden and 34 plots for individuals. First, the north portion of the garden is devoted to exhibiting best practices, gardening diversity, and experimentation. The south portion provides individuals an opportunity to produce organically grown vegetables, herbs, and flowers in an environmentally friendly and sustainable way. As members of this garden community, all involved serve as volunteers to help utilize and beautify the Bishop City Park.

Replacing your lawn is just the beginning. Landscape designer Nancy Heuler walks us through the essentials of native garden design—from reading your soil and mapping sun patterns to grouping plant communities that naturally belong together.

The result? A garden that's easier to maintain, kinder to wildlife, and deeply rooted in the California landscape.

🕯 Hygge at the Market 🕯

This month at the Farm to Table Market, we’re leaning into hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) — the Danish idea of coziness, comfort, and connection. Hygge is about slowing down, savoring warm food, and gathering with people who make you feel at home. It’s candlelight over cold nights, shared tables, and the kind of atmosphere that settles you into the moment.

In Denmark, hygge carries people through the darker months with warmth and togetherness — and that’s exactly the spirit we’re bringing into our market all season long. December at the market is about soft lights, familiar faces, and small joys that feel big when you share them.

If it makes you exhale… it’s probably hygge.
Join us this week for a cozy night with:

👩‍🍳 A cooking demo with Kristine Kidd @ 5:30PM
🎶 Live music by Pete Watercott
🕯 Warm food, soft lights & community vibes
🗓 December 4 | 3–7 PM

Wrap up, wander in, and make yourself at home.

Through our hands-on programs, local students dig into the soil and explore the wonders of nature. Each spring, Bishop Elementary 3rd graders visit our Demonstration Pollinator Garden to learn about plants, pollinators, and the magic of germination, and to plant their very own sunflowers.
Together, we’re helping kids grow curiosity, compassion, and a lifelong love for the land.
