Today the WQCP and EMO Interns protected a handful of Cottonwoods that were damaged from beaver chewing using the sand-paint method. This method consists of a sand and paint mixture. It is used to deter further chewing and prevent tree felling. The WQCP has already implemented this method earlier this year and it remains effective with little-to-no maintenance.

Tomorrow, join the Nüümü Yadoha Language Program and Dr. Erika Zavaleta (UC Santa Cruz) for a special naming discussion for a newly discovered subspecies of this stunning bird!

This will be a great opportunity to give this bird an indigenous name! Don't miss it!

Meet EMO’s 2026 Summer Interns— Marcus Manuelito and Braydon Williams.

In their first two weeks our interns have been keeping busy with a variety of projects, including collecting water samples for bacteria testing, measuring shallow groundwater levels, maintaining water quality equipment, helping with lab work in the BPTEL, monitoring Piaga sites, and assisting with beaver monitoring. We appreciate all of their hard work so far and look forward to continuing to introduce them to the work within the Bishop Paiute Tribe’s Environmental Management Office (EMO).

NOTICE ⚠️

Bacteria levels presently exceed criteria standards for Escherichia coli (E.coli) under the Bishop Paiute Tribe’s Water Quality Standards (126 MPN) for recreational use of this site on the South Fork Bishop Creek.

Because of the increased risk of contracting an illness, the Environmental Management Office (EMO) of the Bishop Paiute Tribe encourages to take caution while swimming (e.g. ingesting water) from the stream until further notice. This is a temporary condition. Thank you for your cooperation.

Bacterial levels are analyzed weekly during the swimming season. Please contact the Water Quality Coordinator,

Happy Earth Day! 🌍✨

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us last Sunday at the Bishop Paiute Tribe’s Earth Day & Spring Market! It was incredible to see our community come together to celebrate and care for our land.

We collected over 235 lbs. of trash during the Rez clean-up! Thank you to the 40+ volunteers who showed up to beautify the reservation. We appreciate you! 💪🏾🌿

We are less than 5 days away from our annual Earth Day and Spring Market event! Please join us this Sunday, April 19th, for a day full of fun, music, and celebrating Earth. 🌎

8am-10:30am Rez Clean Up: Join us at our annual trash clean up of the Bishop Paiute Reservation. We will provide all equipment needed (e.g., bags, trash pickers, vests) and, of course, breakfast burritos! We also have giveaways for the first 50 people to sign up at the EMO registration table. Let's beautify the Rez! 💪🏾

10:30am-3pm Earth Day and Spring Market: Over 50+ info tables and local food/craft vendors will be participating at our event! Come learn about the great work various agencies and nonprofits are doing for our environment and come support local craft and food vendors! There will be plenty of family friendly activites! We also have some great entertainment planned, including KBPT, Paul Chavez, and Soul2Soul (tmes and details on flyer) as well as a 50/50 raffle. 🌿

Come by and give back to your community by joining us in the Rez clean up, supporting local vendors, and staying informed about the environmental related work happening in the Owens Valley. 🌸
