Meet Baloo, MD (Medical Dog)! šŸ¶šŸ©ŗ

We are excited to welcome Baloo, a 2-year-old Labrador Retriever and the newest addition to our PetsRX team! Baloo comes to us from Canine Assistants , where he spent the last two years learning and preparing for his full-time job in the hospital. Alongside his two child life specialist handlers, Baloo will support patients and families in both cardiac units and the pediatric intensive care unit, helping them cope with their healthcare experience.

We want to extend a big thank you to Nucor for their continued generosity and support in sponsoring Baloo!

On World Sickle Cell Day, we celebrate the strength of patients like 10-year-old Julian Tolbert. Diagnosed with sickle cell anemia as an infant, Julian has faced countless challenges, including more than 50 hospitalizations and ongoing treatments. Through it all, he remains joyful, determined, and resilient.

Meet Botts!šŸ’™

A few days after a family camping trip, 4-year-old Botts Jordan became seriously ill with an E. coli infection that progressed to hemolytic-uremic syndrome (HUS), causing his kidneys to shut down.

After 24 days at Childrenā€™s of Alabamaā€”including dialysis, blood transfusions, and intensive careā€”Botts went home and began the next phase of recovery. Today, heā€™s back to doing what he loves, from playing sports to learning multiple instruments, while continuing to support the hospital that cared for him.

Congratulations to Carleigh Duckworth, Clinic 14, who received the DAISY Award!šŸŒ¼

"Carleigh went above and beyond at our appointment today. Despite my daughter having had her tube a few years now, these changes are always a dreaded event. Today, Carleigh completely changed that. She took the time to understand my daughterā€™s fears and thoughtfully adjusted her approach. She was able to change the tube entirely without a SINGLE TEAR from my daughter. What may seem like a moment to some is a tremendous accomplishment. Thank you, Carleigh, for taking that extra time and thinking outside the box to make a scary thing so much better. It is nurses like Carleigh that make all the difference for patients and their families and set the standard for exceptional care."

Timothy Walley and his family visited Washington, D.C., this week to meet with members of Congress as part of the Children's Hospital Association Family Advocacy Day. Timothy joined other child patient advocates from childrenā€™s hospitals across the country to advocate for legislation that ensures access to high-quality pediatric healthcare. Go, Timmy!
