The Alabama Sports Hall of Fame mourns the passing of 2011 Inductee Al Worthington. Worthington played baseball at the University of Alabama where he finished his pitching career with a 14-3 record. He helped lead the Crimson Tide to the 1950 SEC Championship and a College World Series berth. Worthington played 14 seasons in the MLB with the New York and San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, and Minnesota Twins. In 1964, he led all relief pitchers with an ERA of 1.38. Worthington helped lead the Twins to the American League pennant in 1965. He led the American League in saves in 1968 with 18 saves. In 1986, Worthington was selected to the Twins All-Time Team. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
