Doctors Said My Chest Pain Was Anxiety. An MRI Proved It Was Pericarditis.

After COVID, Summer returned to work on her cardiac unit and immediately knew something was wrong. She was having chest pain, her EKG was abnormal, and an echo showed an effusion.

But even with clear symptoms, normal inflammatory markers made doctors uncertain. When she described her chest pain to her primary care physician, she was told it was probably anxiety and offered a muscle relaxer. A cardiac MRI later confirmed what her body had been telling her all along: she had pericarditis.

I Almost Passed Out During a Lung Test. Doctors Still Said I Was Fine.

After COVID, Summer knew something was seriously wrong. She was struggling with brain fog, breathing issues, and symptoms that made daily life feel impossible — but test after test came back “normal.”

Even after nearly passing out during a pulmonary function test and needing her inhaler, doctors still told her the numbers looked fine. Instead of getting answers, she was dismissed, referred to psych, and left searching for the medical clue others were missing.

My Doctors Dismissed Me. A Lung Scan Proved I Was Right.

After years of struggling with Long COVID symptoms, Summer knew something was wrong, even when her doctors dismissed her concerns. She had chest pain, breathing issues, abnormal symptoms, and repeated “normal” tests, but she kept searching for answers.

When she finally met Dr. Jordan Vaughn, she heard an explanation that made sense: COVID was not only affecting the lungs, but the microvascular system. After starting treatment and pushing for the scan she had been asking for, a VQ lung scan finally showed what had been missed: clots in her lungs.

This segment is part of Summer’s Long COVID testimony. A story of being dismissed, fighting for answers, and finally finding a doctor who listened.

After months of being told her scans were normal and her symptoms were being dismissed, Summer finally received confirmation that something was physically wrong: she had clots in her lungs. But instead of bringing relief within the medical system, proving she was right came with a cost.

In this clip, Summer shares the moment her scan came back abnormal, how doctors responded, and why she ultimately lost her primary care provider and pulmonologist after finding evidence that had been missed.
