🔨 Module III Highlights: Precision Cutting & Bench Assembly 🔨

In Module III, students demonstrated more advanced carpentry skills through complex cutting and full project assembly—taking their bench builds to the next level!

This phase focused on accuracy, safety, and teamwork as students worked through real construction tasks, including:
📏 Accurately measuring stretcher pieces to ensure proper bench stabilization
🪚 Safely and precisely cutting stretcher components using a circular saw
🔩 Installing stretcher supports into the bench frame to ensure structural integrity
🧠 Evaluating fit, alignment, and overall craftsmanship as part of their completed group projects

Students applied foundational skills in measurement and tool use to execute more complex builds with greater independence and confidence.

💪 From cut to completion, they showed growth in precision, collaboration, and trade readiness—bringing their bench projects to life with purpose and skill.

Thanks Mr. Luther for your work with these young men on building skills in carpentry and completing this project!

🔨 What Our Students Built Last Month! 🔨

In Module II: Basics of Measurements and Cutting & Intro to Bench Building, our students took a big step forward in their carpentry journey!

In March, they focused on building essential hands-on skills, including:
📏 Learning how to accurately read and use a tape measure
📐 Using a speed square to mark precise, straight lines
🪚 Safely operating circular and miter saws to make clean, accurate cuts

As part of our March 2026 milestone, students were introduced to core carpentry tools, safety practices, and began applying their knowledge through real-world tasks.

💪 They also built on prior achievements by:
✔️ Collaborating to complete cuts for a shelf section
✔️ Independently making instructor-approved, accurate table saw cuts

This module is a major milestone—bridging foundational skills and preparing students for the exciting bench-building project in Module III.

We’re proud of their progress, focus, and craftsmanship. Stay tuned for what they build next! 🛠️✨

Building Skills, Building Futures: The 2026 Pre-Apprenticeship Program is officially underway! 🛠️

Last month, LegacyWorks kicked off our flagship Saturday Paid Pre-Apprenticeship Program for 2026, and we are thrilled to share the progress!💯

Our model is simple but powerful: Local skilled tradesmen share their expertise with our participants, and we compensate the young men for successfully completing program objectives.💵 It’s about removing barriers and investing in potential.

In February we completed the first of three Carpentry sessions (February – April) with our instructor, Mr. Luther.🪵 Participants are learning the fundamentals and working toward building benches as a real-world project.👷🏾‍♂️

The focus of this session was:
✅Accurate reading of tape measures
✅Accurate measurements
✅Marking straight cut-lines with a speed square

We are grateful to Build UP Birmingham for partnering with us on providing a dedicated site for our programming this year.🫱🏾‍🫲🏽

Stay tuned to watch these men build their futures, one skill at a time. 👏🏾

A Birmingham Corps at AmeriCorps member serving with LegacyWorks teamed up with Hearts In Hands to build ramps and complete home repairs for two disabled couples in our community. Ranging in age from 13 to 19, these participants put their trade skills to work — making homes safer and more accessible.

Thank you to LegacyWorks, Hearts in Hands, and Habitat for Humanity for bringing this project to life 🤝

Building a Legacy of Service. 🏗️

There is no better way to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on MLK Day than by investing in our community. This year, LegacyWorks partnered with Hearts in Hands, Inc. to do just that.

Together, we constructed wheelchair ramps for two vulnerable neighbors in the Powderly and Central Park neighborhoods. This project was extra special because it allowed our young men to put their LegacyWorks training to the test in real-time—using their skills to increase safety and independence for local residents.

Proud of our team and partners for making a tangible difference in West Birmingham!

🌉 Building Bridges That Last

At LegacyWorks, our mission extends far beyond the confines of our program. While we are deeply committed to building up the young men in our care with skills, character, and purpose, our support doesn’t end at graduation. We’re not just helping young men get to the next stage; we’re helping them get through it.💪🏾

💯Life presents unexpected challenges. That’s why our Hardship Fund exists—to offer crucial support to our alumni during times of urgent need, even after they’ve moved on from our program. It’s our way of ensuring the bridge we build with them has no end.

Many of our supporters showed up powerfully for our September fundraiser, and we were overwhelmed by the generosity.🙏🏾 Today, we’re asking you to help us strengthen this vital safety net once more.

A generous donor has already kickstarted this campaign with a $500 gift! We are looking for another person (or a few!) to match that $500 and double our impact.

Every single contribution fortifies this fund and sends a clear message to our alumni: "You are not alone. We are still here for you."

No amount is too small. Every gift is deeply appreciated and directly applied to aid a young man facing hardship.

🎉 LegacyWorks Plumbing: Finishing Strong! ✨

💯The final session of our plumbing intensive is complete, and our young men are finishing with skills they can build on!👷🏾‍♂️ Under the expert guidance of Mr. Tyler, they tackled the details that make a plumbing job complete, getting hands-on with:

✅ Shower Trim Installation - Handling the final fixtures that turn a pipe in the wall into a fully functional shower.
✅ Lavatory Line Connections - Learning to fit the water supply and drain lines for a sink.

👨🏾‍🔧This three-part series was more than just learning a trade—it was a movement to build confidence, capability, and a can-do attitude. We are so proud of this group and the foundation they've built for themselves. The future is bright! 🔧💧

A huge thank you to our incredible instructors, Mr. Tony and Mr. Tyler, for their dedication and expertise!

🔧LegacyWorks Plumbing: Mastering the Flow! 💧

‼️Session two with our future plumbers is in the books, and the learning is getting hands-on! 👨🏾‍🔧Under the skilled instruction of Mr. Tony and Mr. Tyler, our young men moved from theory to practice with a critical focus on two fundamentals:

✅ The Art of Being Unleveled - Using the spirit level to make sure your pipes aren’t flat when necessary.
✅ Let it Fall - Developing an understanding of the role gravity plays in the drainage system and how to use it as a plumber.

💫They learned that in plumbing, precision is everything. A fraction of an inch off-level can cause major problems down the line. It was incredible to see them apply these concepts, problem-solve as a team, and build their skills from the ground up.🔥

🚀This is more than a program—it's a movement. We're not just teaching them to connect pipes; we're teaching them the principles of patience, accuracy, and building things the right way. 💪🏾

💧LegacyWorks Flows into a New Skill: Plumbing Trade Training Begins! 🔧

🚀The LegacyWorks crew is back at it—this time, flowing into our first Plumbing Trade sessions under the expert guidance of Mr. Tony and Mr. Tyler! ✨

🔥As part of our 2025 strategic initiative, we’re empowering young men with hands-on skills that build potential careers and unshakeable confidence. 💪🏾

This time, on-site at a neighborhood of new builds🏠, our participants were exposed to plumbing at differing stages of construction as well as the basics of pipe placement and accurate measurements that result in a qualty finished product. 🤩

Just like in our carpentry and electrical sessions, the young men are learning that precision and patience are key. Under the watchful eyes of Mr. Tony and Mr. Tyler, they're building a foundation for a skilled future.👷🏾‍♂️

We're not just teaching trades; we're laying a pipeline for a lifetime of success. 😎 This is a movement dedicated to empowering the next generation with leadership and self-reliance. 💪🏾
