PANIC People Against Neighborhood Industrial Contamination

PANIC People Against Neighborhood Industrial Contamination Bringing relief from the contamination of our communities - Fairmont, Harriman Park and Collegeville. These findings also extended to the surrounding community.

In 2012, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) surveyed air and soil at several public schools in North Birmingham and found elevated levels of arsenic, lead, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). The area that was surveyed is known as the 35th Avenue Superfund Site (i.e. the Harriman Park, Collegeville & Fairmont neighborhoods). Since that time, PANIC has worked to addres

s issues of pollution and contamination through advocacy and community outreach aimed at advancing environmental justice.
