RENATA JIMENA RIVERA CHÁVEZ
“I was born and raised in Mexico City, my father works in banking and my mother has been an English teacher for kinder garden and elementary students most of her life. I have an older sister who studied international relations and is finishing her PhD in Berlin, Germany. No one in my family studied medicine before. I pursued my medical studies at Universidad La Salle, and in the last two years of school I chose a surgical path. I later specialized in General Surgery in Cuernavaca, just an hour from my hometown, an experience that strengthened my discipline, my sense of responsibility, and my commitment to compassionate care.
After completing my residency, I began my training in transplant surgery — a field that inspires me not only for its technical complexity but for its profound impact on the lives of patients and their families. Now in my first year of transplant training, I am driven by the vision of expanding access to high-quality transplant services in states near Mexico City, particularly in underserved areas where transplant programs are scarce or non-existent. I aspire to contribute to building systems that offer timely, equitable care to those who need it most, ensuring that geography or limited resources never become barriers to access quality medical care.”
