The FILES Arts Project

The FILES Arts Project The FILES (Future Inspired Leaders Exemplifying Success) Arts Project is an initiative to provide arts training & education to build stronger communities. Ms.

This project was born out of Ms. Files' experiences during the summer of 2014. On August 2, 2014, Metropolitan Youth Orchestras of Central Alabama and Scrollworks presented Ms. Files in a free Horton & Ballet technique master class at the historic Carver Theatre in Birmingham, Alabama. The class was well-attended and well-received by the students. Many of the students requested that she return to

Birmingham and offer additional master classes. From her own experiences, Ms. Files knew there was a strong need for Horton training in the area. Files is classically trained in Ballet and acknowledges that Ballet training is the foundation for all dance training. However, since studying in New York City she realizes to be competitive, students need exposure to other dance techniques such as Horton, Limon, and Graham. Out of her desire to offer additional dance master classes and thoroughly prepare students for careers in the arts, Ms. Files decided to create this project to not only include dance but to also include music instruction, a healthy artist initiative, and a "business of being an artist" segment. Dancer/Choreographer Kat Files will collaborate with Musician Melvin "Royce" Files, BM, MM; Musician/Businessman Christian Files, BS; Musician Coreisa Lee; Physical Therapist Lisa Altamirano PT, MS, CSCS; Dancer/Choreographer Kyra McCarty, BS, BFA; and the historic Carver Theatre.
