Their stunning desserts were an undeniable standout and the clear winner in our Best Presentation category. Beautifully crafted and almost too pretty to eat - almost! 😉

From the pink heart filled with strawberry milk to the perfect strawberry layers, every detail was thoughtfully designed and flawlessly executed. It was a true showstopper that captured both the eyes and the tastebuds.

We’re so grateful they brought their artistry and creativity to the Magic City Dessert Competition! 💕🍓

A huge congratulations to K & J’s Elegant Pastries!

Their incredible Chocolate Pecan Cake and Strawberry Cake completely wowed our judges at the Magic City Dessert Competition. Every bite was as beautiful as it was delicious!

The 3rd Annual Magic City Dessert Competition is happening February 21 from 7–10 p.m. at The City Club Birmingham — and it’s all for a great cause. This 18+ event features Birmingham’s best desserts, drinks, heavy hors d’oeuvres, a live DJ, and a silent auction (yes, including that dreamy Mexico trip 👀).

Proceeds benefit Cahaba Valley Health Care, supporting free dental and vision care for patients in Jefferson and Shelby counties. Last year’s event sold out, so grab your tickets early!

One of our FINAL competitor spotlights and we saved a sweet one for you 🍰✨

Meet Joel Winget — the man who learned to bake because his fiancée (now wife 💍) couldn’t decide on a wedding cake. After sampling FOURTEEN (14!!!) cakes, he said, “We need to make a decision… or I’ll make it myself.”

Armed with elite training from the prestigious Culinary & Baking Institute of YouTube University 🎓😂, Joel baked a sample cake… and she was SOLD. He made their wedding cake, and the rest is history.

Now baking is his favorite stress reliever, he’s the go-to cake guy for friends and family, AND he donates most of his baking earnings to support a school in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) ❤️🌍

With a highly engaged audience across social platforms, he spotlights local food, culture, and experiences while championing Black-owned and small businesses.
He is the founder and host of the annual Eat & Greet networking experience, returning February 22, 2026 with Eat & Greet III: Bloom Where You’re Planted. LaDarrius is also the author of the upcoming book Bloom Where You’re Planted, a motivational love letter to his hometown rooted in faith, purpose, and community impact.
