We wrapped up Martin Luther King, Jr. Week with an amazing Building Change build project alongside a fantastic crew of The Home Depot employees.

In just a few hours, these tool pros built 10 picnic tables and 9 benches—all headed to the Boys & Girls Clubs of East Central Alabama, where they’ll be put to great use by kids, staff and volunteers.

The Home Depot Foundation is a key partner of ToolBank USA, and their teams show up to ToolBanks across the country to turn volunteer time into real community impact.

If you know of an organization that could benefit from projects like these—or if your company is looking for hands-on volunteer opportunities—Magic City ToolBank can help make it happen!

Laura Quenelle, Executive Director of Magic City ToolBank, recently returned from a trip to Detroit where she helped host an MLK Day volunteer event at the new Detroit ToolBank. A dedicated group of employees from TEKsystems spent the morning assembling tools and building storage racks—saving the local ToolBank team significant time and helping get the operation ready to serve the community.

The visit also provided an opportunity to connect with leaders across the ToolBank network and see firsthand the impact that strong partnerships and hands-on volunteerism can make in communities.

Back in Birmingham, Magic City ToolBank continues its work supporting local nonprofits and community organizations. The team is currently preparing for an upcoming Building Change event with The Home Depot employees, who will be building picnic tables and benches for Boys & Girls Clubs of East Central Alabama.

This work matters—and it’s powerful to see it in action.
