Alabama Record Collectors Association

Alabama Record Collectors Association ARCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the memory and preservation of recorded music. For more info, visit our website

Our members have monthly meetings and we sponsor an annual Record & CD Show in the spring. This page is presented to make people aware of our organization which is all about music and its preservation for generations to come. It is also to keep people informed of upcoming ARCA events including our big annual CD & Record Show. We encourage people to check us out and see if we're something they're i

nterested in. We will also help keep people informed of major music news items and have music videos for their enjoyment. It will usually be music they haven't heard in quite a while, but should remember very fondly. As Dick Clark said, "Music is the soundtrack of our lives."

We were delighted to see dealer Carlos Otalora back at the show, not as a dealer but as a living and breathing person after a scary heart issue put him in the hospital before Christmas. He is out and thinking about the next show, I'm sure!

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Stephen Lee Cropper, who died peacefully in Nashville today at the age of 84.

Steve was a beloved musician, songwriter, and producer whose extraordinary talent touched
millions of lives around the world. As the legendary guitarist for Booker T. & the M.G.‘s and the architect of the Stax Records sound, he helped create some of the most enduring songs in music history, including “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay,” “Soul Man,” “Knock on Wood,” and “In the Midnight Hour.” A Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, Grammy Award winner, and
Songwriters Hall of Fame honoree, Steve’s influence on American music is immeasurable.

While we mourn the loss of a husband, father, and friend, we find comfort knowing that Steve
will live forever through his music. Every note he played, every song he wrote, and every artist
he inspired ensures that his spirit and artistry will continue to move people for generations.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Angel Cropper; his children Andrea and Cameron Cropper, Stevie, and Ashley, along with countless musicians and fans whose lives he transformed through his extraordinary gift.
The family thanks everyone for their love, support, and respect for their privacy during this difficult time.

The question is not how stupid is that caption but rather what year is this from? Was it from the first year at Bessemer when we were in the cavernous large room that you could literally drive into? It looks like a stage in the background which I don't remember from either the big downstairs room or the smaller upstairs room where we moved 2nd year and for the rest of our time there. There is part of an obit on the back which has 2004. A story credits The Western Star staff.

So, every day while at work, I spend the day listening to three different channels on SiriusXM, spread out throughout the day, just depending upon my mood: the 60s channel, usually in the morning, The Beatles channel, and then the classic rewind channel, which is mostly 70s and 80s classic rock. Since yesterday or possibly Thursday, the song, from the Beatles, ‘Rubber Soul’ album, “you won’t see me,” has been in my head, so I’m playing the Capitol records version (as opposed to the British EMI version), in mono, from 1965.

You know, ‘Rubber Soul’, and the next album in the lineup, ‘Revolver’, were transitional Beatles albums. They went from what I would call the “bubblegum” sing-along, head bopping, rock ‘n’ roll, to a more semi-psychedelic sound, that we would see in rare form in Sgt. Peppers and then another transition to the White album, ‘Let It Be’ and ‘Abbey Road’ (let’s not forget, the other psychedelic albums that were a little less popular, but still good, Magical Mystery Tour, and Yellow Submarine).

The transitions and evolving they made in their short life of less than 10 years is nothing short of amazing. However, my passion and fandom for the greatest rock group of all time is well documented. I’m definitely not objective.

As much as I like that song, I’m hoping to listen to the whole album right now will exorcise that earworm.

Also smoking three pork butts for consumption by some friends.
