Not everything is safe to share!

In this hands-on “phishing” activity, kids learn how to protect their personal information, like their birthday or bus number, through a simple fishing game.

It’s an engaging way to teach an important lesson: keeping certain information private helps keep you safe.

At the Progressive Agriculture Foundation, we’re helping kids build smart safety habits that go beyond the farm.

What happens when a community comes together to teach safety?

In Grundy Center, Iowa, 88% of surveyed students reported learning something completely new about safety at a local Progressive Agriculture Safety Day coordinated by 2024 Bernard Geschke Award Recipient Andrea Traeger.

Every safety lesson has the potential to make a difference.

As transportation environments continue to evolve in rural communities, safety education must evolve alongside them.

Many young people grow up around rural roadways, agricultural equipment, and active rail corridors, yet may receive little formal education about how to safely navigate those environments safely.

That’s why we’re grateful for partners like CN Railway who support programs like our Rural Road Ready initiative and help expand hands-on transportation safety education for youth.

Through interactive learning and real-world scenarios, youth are learning about:

🚜 Farm equipment safety
🚦 Roadway safety
🚲 Bicycle safety
🛤️ Railroad safety
🏍️ ATV/UTV safety

Safety education doesn’t just help prevent injuries; it builds awareness, responsibility, and lifelong habits that strengthen rural communities for generations to come.

🚲 Ride smart. Ride visible. Ride prepared.

For , we’re highlighting simple habits that help keep youth safer on every ride:
✔️ Wear a properly fitted helmet
✔️ Be visible to others
✔️ Follow traffic signs and signals
✔️ Stay alert and avoid distractions

At PAF, hands-on learning helps youth build safety skills they can take home and use every day.

June 1–7 is Gun Storage Check Week, an initiative led by our corporate partner, NSSF, encouraging families and firearm owners to take time to review storage practices and help reduce unwanted access.

At PAF, firearm safety is one of more than 30 topics available through our hands-on safety and health programming. Through age-appropriate education and real-world conversations, we help youth build safer habits at home, on the farm, and in their communities.

This week is a reminder that small actions and proactive conversations can make a lasting impact.

What does real impact look like?

It looks like kids turning safety lessons into everyday actions.

Based on 2026 parent and guardian responses, 85% say their child will adopt at least one safe behavior after participating in a PAF program.

That’s how safer habits take root and real impact happens.

“Progressive Ag Safety Day is a powerful example of what can happen when organizations come together for a common goal. As a rural electric cooperative, we believe strongly in education and prevention, and there’s no better place to start than with our local students,” said Grundy County REC Operations Manager Erik Freese.

We couldn't agree more. Thank you to Grundy County Rural Electric Cooperative and our local PAF Coordinator, Andrea Traeger, for helping bring hands-on safety education to more than 240 students in Grundy County, Iowa.

Not every moment of a Safety Day happens in front of students.

Some happen behind the scenes, like this one.

Volunteers preparing lunches, organizing materials, and doing the quiet work that keeps everything running.

It’s the in-between moments that often go unseen, but they’re just as important.

Because every detail, every task, and every helping hand makes it possible for youth to experience hands-on, engaging safety education.

This is what it takes to make it all happen.

🌟 Volunteer Coordinator Spotlight: Mark Cournoyer 🌟

For years, one Wisconsin educator has helped make safety more than a lesson plan. In Auburndale, Mark Cournoyer has built a hands-on, community-driven safety program that has reached generations of youth and evolved to meet local needs. What began in a school parking lot has grown into an experience rooted in agriculture, student leadership, and practical safety skills.

By September 2026, Mark will celebrate his 26th safety program and fifth Progressive Agriculture Safety Day® program.

One of the greatest strengths of the program, according to Mark, is creating opportunities for students to lead: “This program allows me as a teacher to delegate rather than be the creator.”

For Mark, the impact goes beyond activities and demonstrations. It’s about creating habits and mindsets that remain long after students leave the farm.

I spy… a group of safety superheroes 🦸‍🦸‍

Capes on. Eyes open. Ready to learn.

At this Safety Day, students stepped into the role of safety superheroes. When kids learn how to recognize risks, make smart choices, and look out for others, they have a real superpower.

This theme may have started a few years ago, but the message still holds true today.

Safety is their superpower.
