What an incredible week of investigation, discovery and hands-on learning at Summer STREAM Labs!

A special thank you to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office for sponsoring Forensic Science Week and for sharing your expertise, experiences and passion for public service with our scholars. From exploring forensic techniques to learning about careers in law enforcement and criminal justice, our students gained valuable insight into the real-world impact of this exciting field.

The energy, curiosity and enthusiasm displayed by our scholars made this week one to remember!

STREAM Innovations is excited to partner with Grace Klein Community through the ELEVATE Summer Program, providing students with opportunities to explore, discover and learn through hands-on experiences.

This week, students participated in interactive activities like Body Jigsaw and Squishy Body, building teamwork skills while exploring how the human body works. These engaging lessons sparked curiosity and introduced students to healthcare and wellness concepts in a fun and meaningful way.

A highlight of the week was a healthcare career panel, where students heard firsthand from professionals about their career journeys, the realities of working in healthcare, and the many pathways available in the field.

🦷 HEALTH WEEK – DAY 2 RECAP 🦷

Today, our Summer STREAM Labs innovators explored the importance of dental health and learned how healthy teeth and mouths contribute to overall wellness, nutrition and confidence.

Students participated in hands-on activities that included:
🦷 Building and labeling tooth models
🔍 Practicing cleaning, drilling and filling teeth
👅 Investigating the tongue and taste buds to learn how we experience flavor
💡 Discovering how oral health impacts the entire body

These engaging experiences helped students connect science, health and future career opportunities in dentistry and healthcare.

🎉 Health Week – Day 1 Recap! 🩺

Today, our Summer STREAM Lab innovators explored the question: "What’s inside the body?"

Students kicked off Health Week by investigating the human body through hands-on learning experiences designed to spark curiosity and deepen their understanding of health science. They explored the incredible systems that work together to keep us healthy while developing observation and lab skills along the way.

It was a day full of discovery, questions and excitement as our young innovators began their journey into the fascinating world of the human body.

Amyah is senior marketing major attending UAB - The University of Alabama at Birmingham UAB Collat School of Business. She brings valuable experience in customer engagement, leadership, teamwork and communication through both her academic and professional experiences.

We’re proud to celebrate our very first Birmingham Promise intern, Ajayah! 🎉

Over the course of a full semester, she brought dedication, creativity and heart to our team, supporting program development and even designing and leading a project of her own. Her impact has been meaningful and her presence truly valued.
