REV is a place-based revitalization agency and economic development nonprofit.

REV is an economic development organization that stimulates business growth and improves quality of life in Birmingham’s City Center and its Neighborhood Commercial Centers. REV fuels commercial vitality through proactive business recruitment and retention activities, and by encouraging private and public investments that support economic growth citywide. REV’s initiatives generate positive results for partners, enhance tax revenue, generate and sustain jobs, increase tourism and positively influence perceptions about the City of Birmingham. REV is a public-private partnership formed in 2012 by the strategic merger of Operation New Birmingham and Main Street Birmingham.

Our very own Activations Manager, Jonathan Crain, is published!

Jonathan served on the International Downtown Association’s 2026 Top Issues Council, focusing on events and activations. The group identified three key trends:

Our VP of Economic Development, Brandon Cummings, joined a panel hosted by Alabama Power focused on the themes of Living, Working, Growing, and Playing in the region. Other panelists included economic development professionals from Shelby County, the City of Hoover, and the City of Vestavia. They spoke to the 2026 TechStars cohort, a small group of 20 talented, innovative companies making their home in Birmingham for the next 3 to 6 months!

Brandon shared valuable insights on how innovative startups can thrive in Downtown Birmingham, thanks to the support from the expanding tech ecosystem. He also highlighted how teams can enjoy living and playing in the city, as new dining and entertainment options continue to emerge regularly.

We are always excited to share how awesome our city is and look forward to seeing more innovative companies headquartered in Downtown BHM!

Last week, David Fleming, CEO; Julie McKinney, VP of People & Places; and Michael Symes, City Center District Manager, headed north to attend the International Downtown Association (IDA) Annual Conference in Toronto.

The week was full of learning, sharing what we’re doing here in Birmingham, exploring a new city and... raccoons! It was time well spent, with plenty of new ideas and inspiration to bring back home.

REV recently brought the inaugural Five Points South Summer Sampler to life at Brother Bryan Park! This event was produced by REV as part of our work managing the Downtown BHM Business Improvement District (BID). In case you didn’t know, creating vibrant, welcoming public spaces is a big part of what we do — and the Summer Sampler was a perfect example of that work in action!

We’re grateful to our friends at Public Works and our stellar CAP Ambassadors, whose support helped keep the park clean and safe as guests enjoyed an evening of great food and live music.

Our Five Points South District Manager, Emily, made her Birmingham Mountain Radio debut talking about the Five Points South Summer Sampler! She had a great discussion with hosts Reg and Will and built real hype for Saturday’s event at Brother Bryan Park.

Recently, our summer intern, Jack, officially wrapped up his time with REV! In true REV fashion, we celebrated with a great meal at Paramount and even better conversation about what’s next as he continues his academic journey.
