Some pretty good wisdom from a fourth grader at Vance Elementary!

Over the past two weeks, our AVI students have been building ramps, experimenting with levers, and figuring out how to make their Rube Goldberg machines work. And as you can see from these photos, there's been plenty of hands-on learning along the way!

Not every attempt has worked, but that's part of the fun. Students are testing ideas, making adjustments, asking questions, and learning from each other.

You know your students need to improve their ACT scores. But do you know exactly what they need help with?

A student may need to improve in math, but that doesn't tell an educator where to begin. Is the difficulty in algebra? A particular skill? Something even more specific?

At CAMP, we use diagnostic data to help answer those questions. Our ACT assessments allow us to examine nearly 500 sub-standards, giving educators a clearer picture of where students need support and helping us develop instruction around those needs.

For schools and districts, that level of detail matters. It allows us to have much more productive conversations about what students actually need and how we can help them improve.

Sometimes the most important ACT decision is not what students will study. It’s how the support fits into the life of the school.

That looked very different at Jemison and in Selma. One partnership used in-school support. The other used a Saturday Academy. The numbers show the results, but the part behind those numbers matters just as much: understanding the partner, the schedule, the students, and what can realistically work well.

We don’t expect schools to reshape themselves around a preset program. We build the model around what will work for their students, then use the data to help decide what happens next.

The dominoes were supposed to push the car. They didn’t, so our AVI students tried something else: let the car push the dominoes!

Those little moments are some of our favorite parts of watching this work unfold. Students test something, see what actually happens, and decide what to change next.

Week 2 of our Rube Goldberg challenge gave us a lot of those moments. We’re sharing a few of them in the latest AVI in Action.

A little radio time before a big night for Birmingham educators. 🎙️

This morning, CAMP Executive Director Dr. Hayes and Amanda Pritchard joined Reg & Will on The Morning Blend at 107.3 Birmingham Mountain Radio to talk about tomorrow night’s E3 Gala and why we wanted to create something that was simply about celebrating educators.

And now we’re almost there.

Tomorrow night at The Fennec, we’ll have live music from Souled Out Groove, DJ Younghope, Baroma Perfume Bar, permanent jewelry, massage chairs, giveaways, raffle prizes, and plenty more.

No training. No agenda. No work to take home.

Just a night out for educators who deserve one.

The E3 Gala is happening October 1 at The Fennec, and we’re getting closer to a night built entirely around celebrating the people who pour so much into students all year long.
