The Man Project: Influence Today For A Better Tomorrow

This past weekend, Alabama Kids Code helped start the Indy season at Barber Motorsports Park, with Kids on Track, Honda Racing US, Abel Motorsports, and Firestone Racing!

Honda Alabama fed us well at lunch and provided an awesome track view.

Special thanks to driver Josh Mason Akinwunmi for giving the kids your time and autograph.

Did you know that the Indy 500 has mechanical, electrical, computer science, and data engineers helping ensure the races go smoothly?

Happy Earth Day!

Let's create a DIY compost bin.

Here's a simple guide:

Materials Needed:
1. Large plastic container with a lid (an old storage bin or trash can works well)
2. Drill or hammer and nails
3. Green and brown organic waste (fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, tea bags, shredded paper, cardboard)
4. Soil or finished compost (optional)

Instructions:
1. Prepare the Bin: Drill or poke holes in the bottom and sides of the container for aeration. This allows air to circulate, aiding in the decomposition process.
2. Layering: Start by adding a layer of brown organic material (shredded paper, cardboard) at the bottom. Then, add a layer of green organic waste (fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds) on top.
3. Moisture: Sprinkle some water over the layers to keep them moist but not waterlogged. The composting process requires the right amount of moisture to work effectively.
4. Repeat: Continue alternating layers of brown and green organic material until the bin is full. Make sure to top it off with a layer of brown material.
5. Mixing: Every week or so, use a shovel or pitchfork to turn the compost. This helps aerate the pile and speed up decomposition.
6. Patience: Depending on the conditions, your compost should be ready in a few months to a year. It will turn into dark, crumbly soil-like material when it's fully decomposed.
7. Use: Once your compost is ready, use it to enrich your garden soil, potting mix, or sprinkle it around your plants as a natural fertilizer.

This challenge helps reduce waste sent to landfills and creates nutrient-rich compost for your garden, promoting sustainability and environmental consciousness right from your home!
