It is with shock-filled sadness that Maranathan Academy pays tribute to the life of Earnest "Snake" Brown, former Dean of Academics and Compliance. The Academy was privileged to have Mr. Brown's dynamic presence for several years. All who labor and study at Maranathan Academy (currently or in the past], know what a tremendous loss his passing is, not only for the academic community but for the sports world as well. Dean Brown, as he was affectionately known during his time at Maranathan, was the epitome of a man with a heart for people. Whether he was feeding the homeless or serving as a volunteer coach, Dean Brown truly had a love for people. Our hearts and prayers go out to his family. All of us who knew and loved Dean Brown must try to take comfort in the extraordinary impact his life made on all who were blessed to encounter him. With gratitude for having been blessed to work with him, the Academy shares photos from the occasion he and his fellow UA team members were celebrated during the halftime of a UA basketball game. The Academy also shares the link to an article that was done on Dean Brown during his time at Maranathan Academy, which provides a mere glimpse into the incredible heart he had for education and for people. :-(

It is with deepest sadness Maranathan Academy
shares that Dr. Jenice Prather-Kinsey, beloved Maranathan Academy Board Member and treasured mentor, passed away on June 3, 2025.

Dr. Prather-Kinsey was a remarkable woman---a noted academician who held a Ph.d in accounting; a celebrated CPA during a time when there weren't many women in the field; a distinguished educator at the University of Missouri, as well as a former professor and Sallie W. Dean scholar of the Department of Finance and Accounting at the University of Alabama in Birmingham; and an impactful civic leader who successfully ran for a seat on the Missouri State Commision.

Whether making tremendous contributions as a member of the Maranathan Academy Board of Directors, serving as a mentor on field trips, attending signature fund raiser events, or providing insight and encouragement to the Academy's Founder and Executive Director, Dr. Prather-Kinsey's impact was multifaceted and significant. There are no words to express how greatly she will be missed as a board member, mentor, friend and impassioned advocate for critically at-risk students.

Donna Dukes, Maranathan's Founder and Executive Director, along with a delegation of Maranathan Academy Student Ambassadors, attended Dr. Prather-Kinsey's memorial service, which took place January 7, 2025 at the Greystone Campus of Church of the Highlands.

Maranathan Academy asks to be joined in prayer
for Dr. Prather-Kinsey's devoted husband, wonderful sons, grandchildren, extended family and plethora of friends.
