Yesterday Beanstalk tabled at Spectrum’s Community Unveiling at The Dannon Project!

Beanstalk was invited to host interactive resilience & green careers activities at our table. Attendees of all ages tried our four hands-on activities designed to spark curiosity, confidence, and climate-smart skills:

🌀 STATION 1 — Spin to SurviveParticipants spun our virtual wheel, drew a disaster scenario, and explored quick actions to stay safe during storms, flooding, and outages.

🌱 STATION 2 — Plant Your Future (Green Career Game)Attendees matched seed cards (interests) with green career and green business ideas. This one had everyone thinking about income, impact, and innovation!

🎤 STATION 3 — 60-Second Pitch ChallengeA few pitched business ideas, completed a one-page plan, and scored each other using our pitch scorecards.

📘 STATION 4 — Take-Home ZoneParticipants answered our reflection prompt:“What skill do you want to grow?”

They were also able to learn more about Beanstalk and sign up for our volunteer opportunities. We made a few connections and even gained a new teen volunteer! 💪🏾

Events like these provide the opportunity to pour into the community and help us sharpen our programs, especially our Green Bean program focused on green careers & entrepreneurship.

We’re grateful. We’re growing. And we’re planting seeds everywhere we go. 🌿💚

Ms. Blakely and Ms. Ransom shared heartfelt thanks to AARP for financially supporting Beanstalk’s digital skills program and helping seniors stay connected, prepared, and confident. Their words meant SO much, because they reflect the very impact we hope to make in every training.

Seeing their excitement as they learned to activate their new tablets, explore safety features, sync contacts, and download emergency apps filled the whole room with joy.

Thank you, AARP, for believing in our seniors and helping Beanstalk expand digital preparedness across Birmingham.

And thank you Ms. Blakely and Ms. Ransom for inspiring us with your commitment to learning. 💚📱

More digital trainings are coming in January 2026 and we can’t wait to welcome even more residents!

📱💚 We love seeing our participants thrive and feel empowered!

We received the sweetest thank-you message from Ms. Nadine Smith, who shared how much she appreciated the digital skills training we facilitated. Her words truly warmed our hearts. 🥹💚

Hearing seniors say they feel more confident, more connected, and more prepared reminds us there's more work to do. Digital readiness isn’t just about technology, it’s about empowerment, independence, and resilience.

We’re grateful for every learner who shows up ready to grow.

We’re grateful for our incredible partners.

And we’re grateful that community members like Ms. Nadine feel supported through Beanstalk’s programs.

More trainings are coming in January at Five Points West Library...stay tuned! ✨

Yesterday’s Digital Readiness Training at the 5 Points West Library was amazing! 📱✨

Our seniors showed up ready to learn, explore, and gain confidence using their new Samsung Galaxy tablets.

During the session, participants learned how to:
✔️ Activate their devices
✔️ Sync contacts
✔️ Turn on key safety & security features
✔️ Download essential emergency apps to stay prepared and connected

The smiles, teamwork, and “I got it!” moments were everything. This is what digital equity looks like in our communities. 💚

A huge thank you to the 5 Points West Library team! They’ll be offering additional digital training for participants in January 2026 and all Beanstalk needs to do is share the training dates with our residents.

We can’t wait to keep building tech confidence and resilience across the city!

We’re Growing Resilience Together!

We’re thrilled to share that last month Beanstalk was awarded $5,000 last month to launch our Survive & Thrive Series, a six-month, hands-on survival skills program coming in 2026!

Through fun, interactive workshops led by local farmers, beekeepers, craftspeople, and community experts, participants of all ages will learn practical skills like gardening, sewing, foraging, self-defense, and animal care.

Our goal is to help families and individuals especially in rural and low-income communities build confidence, self-reliance, and community resilience in the face of challenges like climate change, food insecurity, and limited resources.

Together, we’re helping communities not just survive, but thrive. 💚

🌱✨ Survive & Thrive with Beanstalk! ✨🌱

Beanstalk had the joy of leading a Senior Citizen Disaster Preparedness Workshop with the Active Living Senior Group at Five Points West Library this week.

Together, we turned preparedness into something practical, hands-on, and empowering. Seniors moved through activity stations with their own “Survive & Thrive” workbook, learning how to:

✅ Pack a personalized Go-Bag with essentials

✅ Create a Family Communication Plan

✅ Check their home safety & first aid supplies

✅ Stay alert to local hazards like tornadoes and power outages

✅ Keep medications and health information ready in case of emergency

The room was full of energy, wisdom, and community spirit. Every participant left with a plan, a workbook, and their own emergency motto to remind them that preparedness is power. 💪🏾

At Beanstalk, we believe that when we prepare together, we thrive together. 🌟

🌟 Today we had an amazing time at the Senior Resource Expo at the CrossPlex! 🌟

Beanstalk was proud to share our Disaster Preparedness Workshops, helping seniors and community members learn practical ways to stay safe and resilient. 💪🏾🌱

We also let folks know that we’re ready to bring these workshops directly to your churches, neighborhoods, senior centers, and organizations, because preparedness starts at home and grows in community. 🏡

And thanks to the generous support of AARP, we’re thrilled to offer FREE tablets with one year of service to community members ages 50+ to help bridge the digital divide and keep everyone connected. 💻✨

We’re so grateful for the chance to connect, share resources, and build stronger, safer communities together! 💚

A few girl scouts recited our pledge but we were only able to record two of them...

“I plant this seed as a promise to grow, lead, and protect the Earth.”
