September Tournament Wrap-Up for the SpeakFirst: Birmingham Urban Debate League!

During our first tournament for the Fall semester, a total of 112 Birmingham City middle and high school students competed across two rounds. With students from 16 schools competing in the tournament, and additional schools attending to observe and learn from other teams, tournament attendance increased by 81% from our first tournament last semester!

This tournament would not have been possible without our volunteer judges. There is still time to sign-up to judge during our tournament tomorrow evening! No debate experience required. For more information and to claim your spot, please email us at [email protected].

We are hiring a Day-of Event Coordinator for SpeakFirst!

The Coordinator is responsible for managing the implementation of debate tournaments, with a primary emphasis on event setup/teardown and volunteer management. In this role, the Coordinator will collaborate with the SpeakFirst Director and the Volunteer Manager to effectively host 5-6 debate tournaments each year. Their efforts ensure that program goals are met and that high-quality events are delivered efficiently and effectively.
