Our friends at Faith in Action Alabama (FIAAL) invite you to add your name as a public signatory to a statewide letter calling on Governor Kay Ivey, Speaker Nathaniel Ledbetter, and President Pro Tempore Garlan Gudger to eliminate Alabama’s three Confederate holidays: Jefferson Davis Day, Robert E. Lee Day, and Confederate Memorial Day. These holidays honor individuals who fought to preserve slavery and stand in direct contradiction to the values of justice, dignity, and unity. In addition, these state-sponsored holidays undergird a narrative that legitimizes dismantling voting rights for communities of color and promotes socioeconomic policies that harm all low- and moderate-income Alabamians.

FIAAL states, “As people of faith and residents of Alabama, we believe it is time to end this practice. We will deliver this letter on June 18th, in recognition of Juneteenth, a day marking the end of slavery in the United States. As we take this step, we are also building support for the People’s Agenda; a set of community-driven priorities focused on justice, equity, and opportunity for all Alabamians.” The deadline to sign the letter is this upcoming Monday, June 15th. By completing this form, you are adding your name as a public signatory and indicating your support for forward movement in Alabama. To add your name, and to read the full letter, CLICK HERE: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeO1dKOmGRLF5P3Hw2sSDUbPlWjtfHma1OqSrEclT2x27NEeA/viewform

This Sunday, June 14th, FPC will welcome Rev. Dr. Dollie Howell Pankey as our guest preacher! Rev. Dr. Howell Pankey’s life demonstrates that proximity offers opportunities to make a difference in the lives of people around us. Ordained in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, her proximity to people makes a difference as a theological educator at the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia; as a chaplain at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama; as worship pastor at Beloved Community Church (UCC) in Birmingham, Alabama; as a community activist on the local and national stage; as multitalented recording artist D’ Marie; and as a workshop facilitator and consultant. She also completed the Doctor of Pastoral Music degree at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. Through her life, creative gifts, and response to the call of God, she brings healing and hope, drawing people into closer proximity to God’s love.

FPC’s many talented artists are ready for THIS Saturday’s Central Alabama Pride Parade! See y’all there. 😊🏳️‍🌈🪧
