Birmingham Firefighters showed up to the Detroit Fight For Air Climb and made some noise.
2nd place with a 10:12.7 team time—and the only thing we’re breathing heavy about is how close we are to the top spot.
Mark Mischle (8:48), Chris Deman (10:46), and Alan Soave (11:04) put in the work and put us on the podium.
Enjoy it while you can, Sterling Heights Firefighters Local 1557…we’re coming for you next year.

Huge thank you to everyone who donated to our team!!

🚨 Once Again, We Climb for Those Who Can’t Breathe 🚨
It’s that time of year again! Birmingham Fire Department is proud to continue our annual tradition of participating in the Detroit Fight for Air Climb on May 3rd at Ford Field.

Year after year, our firefighters suit up in full gear and climb hundreds of stairs to raise funds for the American Lung Association’s fight against lung cancer and lung disease. This event is personal to us—we’ve seen firsthand how lung disease affects our community, and we’re committed to making a difference.

Every climb honors those we’ve lost, supports those currently fighting, and funds critical research that saves lives. We’re proud to be part of this Metro Detroit tradition alongside fellow first responders from across Michigan.

💙 Support our team: https://action.lung.org/site/TR/Climb/ALAMS_MidlandStates?pg=team&team_id=198010&fr_id=29088

💪 Every dollar funds research, patient programs, and cleaner air for our kids

Today’s A-Unit training focused on firefighter survival.

Here’s some clips of skills we hope we never need—but train on constantly so they’re there if we do.

Preparation doesn’t always make the highlight reel.
It just makes sure everyone goes home.

Also keep in mind — when snow accumulates, roads become much narrower. That makes it harder for fire trucks, ambulances, and other emergency vehicles to safely get down residential streets.

If you’re able to, consider avoiding street parking altogether during and after heavy snowfall to help keep roads clear for emergency response. A little extra space can make a big difference.

In anticipation of yet another round of snow predicted for Sunday, the city is issuing a snow emergency parking ban starting on Sunday, Jan. 25, at 1 a.m. and lasting until Monday, Jan. 26, at 5 p.m.

If the city receives less than 2.5 inches of snow, the Department of Public Services will lift the parking ban early, since we do not plow when there is less than 2.5 inches.

During an emergency parking ban, it is a civil infraction to park a vehicle or allow it to remain parked on any residential roadway until the road is cleared of snow. Illegally parked vehicles will be ticketed and may be towed, with the vehicle’s registered owner responsible for the towing cost. No tickets will be issued to vehicles with a handicapped parking designation.

Please help make it easier for DPS to clear the roads by ensuring that your vehicle is off the street. Once we plow after the snow ends, we welcome you to park on the street again. Please do not shovel snow into the road or onto someone else's property.

Gates at the Chester Street Parking Structure (180 Chester Street) will be open for free access to help residents move vehicles off the street during the parking ban. For parking concerns, please call police dispatch at (248) 530-1889.

Find detailed information about snow removal, plowing routes and street priorities during snow events at bhamgov.org/snow.
